Consultant in Plastic Surgery (Lower Limb Reconstruction & Trauma)
You’ll have responsibility for general plastic surgery services and will have a specialist interest in trauma surgery and trauma related reconstruction of both lower and upper limbs.
This is an opportunity to join the dynamic and enthusiastic team of limb reconstructive surgeons to gain experience in a high performing department for trauma reconstruction. There’s an excellent collaborative working relationship between the plastic and orthopaedic parts of the team and good support and mentoring is provided for new consultants when they join the department.
The department uses the BSSH hand trauma triage algorithms through an integrated online referral service thereby reducing the patient footfall to clinic and allowing timely consultant review of decisions made by junior staff. Plastics Trauma consultants lead the service for both upper and lower limb trauma.
Your duties will be primarily at The John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals in Oxford, but it is a condition of the appointment that you’ll be willing to work in any of the Trust’s locations and its partner hospitals. Flexible working is essential, and the job plans are annualised to reflect this.
Oxford is a large department with 25 consultants who cover the full spectrum of Plastic Surgery. The department has an active teaching programme with a microsurgery practise station available 24/7, cadaver training, teaching opportunities and high-level quality improvement projects, and has consistently performed well on the National Dashboard for BOAST four compliance for five years.
There are also six Plastic Surgery Consultants with an interest in trauma who work closely together to ensure a high quality of care is delivered at all times and we have an excellent working relationship with our orthopaedic trauma colleagues.
Candidates are highly recommended to visit the department and hospital and are invited to contact Mr Peter Kalu, Plastic Surgery Clinical Lead, email peter.kalu@ouh.nhs.uk or call 01865 228348. To apply and gain further details of the posts, please click on the apply button.
