Position Summary:

What will you do?
* Problem-solve processing issues in manufacturing to provide flawless solutions where material fails first pass through the plant.
* Carry out lab-based experiments to determine the suitability of raw materials for use in manufacture/packing.
* Support Sourcing and Procurement by providing advice on supplier specifications and test methods.
* Manufacture laboratory samples for customer evaluation, assess manufacturing feasibility, and provide quotes for customers.
* Use the NPI process to set up new products on internal systems and personally supervise the first batch production.
* Investigate non-conformances and other issues, carrying out root cause analysis and successfully implementing solutions to prevent recurrence.
* Review and update Chemical Manufacturing Batch Instructions and SOPs, with a strict focus on Process Safety.
* Support QC in interpretation of analysis, analytical techniques, analytical testing, and method development.
* Work with external suppliers to source services or equipment to support the development team’s collaborators.
* Collaborate with Plant, EHS, and Engineering to take part in risk assessments, HAZOPS & COSHH assessments.
* Develop specialist knowledge in key areas such as fractional distillation.
* Embrace and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives (Practical Process Improvement) to identify improvements and cost savings.

Keys to Success:
Education
• Bachelor of Science degree (1st or 2:1), in a Chemistry field.
• PhD or MSc preferable
Experience
* A minimum of three years’ practical experience as a development chemist
* Experience of problem-solving process issues at plant scale
* Proven experience of distillation skills
* Must be willing to work in a hands-on capacity
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
* Knowledge of analytical techniques, particularly HPLC, LC-MS, UV
* Excellent written and oral communication skills are required to connect with all levels of the organization.
* Be able to drive multiple projects forward simultaneously
* Strong aim to develop your career and progress within the business
* Willingness to develop your own in-depth technical knowledge in key business areas such as fractional distillation and Karl Fischer water determinations

* This role is based on-site in Loughborough, UK.
