Principal Systems Engineer

Copello has partnered with a defence technology company to find a highly skilled Principal Systems Engineer. This role will provide technical direction across the product lifecycle, from requirements capture through testing and certification activities.
Duties:
* You will lead customer support and technical/product strategy discussions. Responsible for providing technical input for Bids and Proposals and Engineering Estimates to secure new business.
* You will develop technical requirements design, generate technical documentation, and manage these requirements through the design lifecycle to meet product development goals.
* You will solve complex technical problems on new and existing products, providing Engineering representation to production Product Teams regarding production queries, obsolescence management, and phasing of change management.
* You will oversee all technical design reviews and qualification, verification, validation, and certification of designs to meet high standards expected by customers. The company invests heavily in Research & Development for existing and new products within the APNT division.
* You will support and mentor junior engineers through their activities to ensure team growth and future success.
Essential Requirements:
* Experience leading product development at team lead level
* Good knowledge of high-speed digital design, electro-mechanical, and/or thermal product design in harsh environments
* Understanding of RF concepts and techniques for analogue signals
* Design experience with analogue and digital circuits, including exposure to FPGA or DSP control
* Experience interfacing designs into established systems
* Proven experience in systems engineering principles with regards product development
* Experience in Product Qualification for EMC and Environmental requirements
* Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills, willing to take ownership and positively contribute within cross-disciplined teams
* Ability to develop hardware concepts efficiently from limited or vague customer requirements and communicate potential solutions
* Excellent stakeholder management and customer interfacing skills
* Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics) or similar industry certification
Desirable Requirements:
* Design Authority experience for Hardware Product development
* Experience with interfacing to RF circuitry and high-speed D/A/A/D conversion
* Experience in schematic and PCB layout tools, and Electronics simulation environments (e.g. Mentor, Matlab, LT Spice, Hyperlynx, and Systemvision or equivalents)
* Knowledge of Firmware development, design, and test using suitable toolsets (i.e. Xilinx Vivado, ModelSim)
* Product Quality Testing and Certification
* Experience of working with Industry standard toolsets for requirement capture, design, and task management (e.g. DOORs, Microsoft Project)
* Knowledge of GNSS systems and receiver characteristics
* Experience with SysMl or UML in a Systems Engineering environment
* Experience with configuration management systems
* Understands the principles of 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing

This position offers a salary of £80,000 - £100,000 per annum, depending on experience
