Position Description:
As a Design Engineer, your role will involve working with cross-functional teams in Industrial Design, Strategic Sourcing, Quality Assurance, and OE Product Development. At the outset, you will be exposed to the design of retail customer-facing products at various points in their product life cycle.
Overall success in your role will depend on the following measures but not limited to:
* Mutually agreed project timing plan deadlines
* Successful drawing release completion
Key Responsibilities:
* Design systems and components for new and updated accessory projects, considering function, cost, manufacture, assembly, and quality.
* Produce good quality 3D CAD models using Creo.
* Produce good quality 2D engineering drawings, to ASME Y14.5.
* Follow and help maintain design, operational, and quality procedures.
* Produce supporting documentation for designs, as required, and present these designs in cross-functional team reviews.
* Design components and systems to comply with regulatory requirements & internal test procedures where needed.
* Liaise with internal departments such as Sourcing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Assembly.
* Liaise with outside suppliers.
* Manage your own time and workload effectively.
* Create and manage timing plans for your areas of responsibility.
* Work with CAD Designers or contractors allocated to help with creating CAD models.
* Support the testing department with the fixturing & testing of components & motorcycles.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor's degree (minimum 2:1) with proficiency in 3D CAD, preferably Pro-engineer / CREO.
* Minimum 3 years experience designing for manufacture and a good knowledge of processes, such as castings, forgings, sheet metal, and injection mouldings.
* Experience of creating and releasing 2D technical drawings to ASME Y14.5-2009.
* Understanding of geometric tolerances on 2D drawings, to ASME Y14.5-2009.
* Good understanding of motorcycle chassis layout and construction.
* Practical experience of vehicle maintenance and preparation is advantageous.
* Experience supporting and mentoring junior team members would be advantageous.
* IMechE membership is desirable.
