Alex is currently attending 6th form and is enjoying all elements of his education. Outside of school he enjoys swimming, hockey, trampolining, going to the gym and adventurous trips to the Calvert Trust. As a result of an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Alex has Cerebral Palsy, development delay, a visual impairment, and epilepsy, though his seizures are well managed with medication. Alex can struggle with transitions and likes to know what is happening now, and next. Alex has a fantastic team of Support Workers, who help him to enjoy each day, and we are recruiting a new, full-time Support Worker to join his team Overview of role: During term time, Alex has a good routine in place, he needs support with all aspects of his daily living tasks, including manual handling, support with transfers in and out of his chair, showering and personal care, getting dressed and support with feeding. Alex is an active manual wheelchair user and walks daily in a Kaye Walker for 20 minutes (with guided support). During transitions, Alex can weight bear, and full and comprehensive training is provided around all aspects of manual handling. During the night shift, Alex sleeps well, he may occasionally call out if he needs his blanket replaced, though he is making great progress in putting this back on himself. Promoting Alex’s independence and supporting the continued development of his functional skills is a big part of this role. In the afternoons, school holidays and weekends there could be a variety of different outings and activities from trampolining, going to the gym, swimming or therapy at home. Alex has been enjoying holidays with his support team, and these are often at the Calvert Trust, where he and his support workers take part in accessible activity breaks. You will become part of a warm and fun-loving team, where all training will be provided. The rota is prepared at least 3 months in advance with the whole team input. A shift can often include after school, an on-call night and a morning shift all-in-one, or a longer day at the weekend.
