Fixed Term Consultant in Stroke Medicine
Applications are welcomed for a Consultant Physician with an interest in Stroke Medicine post.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the existing Stroke team in Lincolnshire, who are a motivated, energetic team of Physicians who are committed to providing high quality services to a largely rural population. We have two, full time Stroke Physician posts based at Lincoln County Hospital. The purpose of these posts is to ensure the highest quality of care is provided to the Lincolnshire population from prevention of hyper-acute treatment and all aspects of rehabilitation. The appointees will join a busy, enthusiastic and hardworking team.
This post provides opportunities for developing sub-specialisations and every support being given to research interests.
Main duties of the job
Responsibilities:
* Provide in-patient and outpatient care for patients with Stroke, TIA and suspected cerebrovascular disease
* Contribute to the provision of acute stroke specialist service delivering thrombolysis and other specialist treatments. Acute stroke for the Trust are currently under review in line with the Midlands and East strategic health authority Stroke review. We have functional telemedicine equipment which is used with various aspects of stroke care. Work with the rest of the clinical and managerial team to support and deliver quality improvements on the StrokeUnit and in the community
* Take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
* Participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

Person Specification
Qualifications & Certification
* MRCP or equivalent
* Advanced Life Support certificate
* Higher research qualification
* Certificate of completion of specialist training (CCT) or equivalent in General Internal Medicine and Geriatric medicine, Neurology or Stroke medicine (or entry expected within six months of interview date)
Clinical Experience
* Clinical experience in stroke medicine, including acute, TIA, rehabilitation and prevention
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
* Expertise in stroke thrombolysis
* Experience of telemedicine
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for the management of acute medical emergencies
Management
* Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
* Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgment when faced with conflicting pressures
* Ability to motivate and develop the multi-disciplinary team, balancing departmental and personal objectives
* Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services
* Evidence of developing a high quality, high performance service
Clinical Effectiveness
* Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management
Teaching & Training
* Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training for doctors and other disciplines
