With the announcement last year that we will be introducing 10 "tri-mode" trains to the East Coast Main Line, the next couple of years look to be a busy yet exciting time particularly for our Fleet Procurement Team. The new trains, which can run on battery power, electricity and diesel are expected to come into service by the end of 2027 and will run alongside our existing Azuma fleet. Successfully delivering this new fleet will be an integral part of our Business Plan, allowing us to carry more customers, more often and reliably, helping to grow the business sustainably and moving us closer to achieving our vision.
With this in mind, we have created an exciting opportunity to join our Fleet Procurement Team as a Fleet Procurement Joint Project Manager. Within this role you will be responsible for managing the delivery of the Manufacture and Supply Agreement on behalf of LNER and the Owner. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the new fleet meets the requirements of all stakeholders and that it is delivered in line with contracted milestones and on budget.
You will also be involved in:
* Active ownership and management of the programme elements to ensure they are delivered at pace, in a controlled way through effective management of stakeholders.
* Ensure the delivery and outputs of the contracts adheres to quality standards, ensuring compliance to regulatory standards, building fit for purpose outputs which are also fit for use.
* Setup and manage appropriate governance to exercise control; timely dissemination of accurate & relevant information; and escalations up the governance model in return for decisions, strategic alignment and escalation resolution.
* Generate a consulting, delivery oriented, results based, enjoyable culture to build motivated teams, and satisfied stakeholders.
* Proactively manage overall constraints of the programme/project i.e. budget, risk, resources, schedule and environments.
* Ensure adherence and continuous improvement to PPM standards and framework to ensure consistency, repeatability and comparable reporting.
* Manage suppliers to ensure they are delivering value, results and LNER maximises their contributions and capabilities.
* Handover projects to BAU in a safe manner.
* Own and Lead LNER and the Owners engagement with the manufacturer on Unit design, build and Unit acceptance.
* Ensure LNER's requirements are adequately addressed through the design review process.
* Engage with LNER staff and customers throughout the design process, including attendance at mock-up reviews and First Article Inspections.
* Ensure the manufacturer delivers a design that meets stakeholder requirements.
* Obtain sign-off for the design from stakeholders, including owners.
* Maintain a focus on project delivery timescales.
* Provide timely and accurate project reports to LNER and the Owners.
* Support Fleet Procurement Business Change Manager in developing business transition plans.
* Develop and implement the process for Unit Acceptance to ensure that LNER's requirements are met on each Unit.
* Provide assurance to Head of Fleet Procurement and the asset Owners prior to signing of certificates of Acceptance.
What you'll need:
To be our Fleet Procurement Joint Project Manager you will need the following competencies and skills:
* Experience of working with or for a Train Manufacturer.
* Demonstrate excellence and aptitude in Programme & Project Management skills.
* Demonstrate excellent Stakeholder Management and Communication skills at various levels within the organisations up to and including Director level.
* Ability to challenge and influence decision making (e.g. problem/solution options).
* Influence and negotiate to achieve the right outcomes for LNER and the Owner.
* Demonstrate excellence in Financial Management and Control.
* Demonstrate the ability to work within complex environments and manage external suppliers in complex supplier ecosystems.
* Demonstrate excellence in the identification and management of Risk.
* People Management and ability to provide leadership, coaching and overall support to a team as and where appropriate.
* Demonstrate and Live by the LNER Values.
* Continually drive improvements to employee and customer safety.
