Job overview
The Acute Medical Unit receives patients from the Emergency Department, GP surgeries and specialist clinics. Working on the Acute Medical Unit you will see patients with a wide variety of conditions and will gain experience from many specialities.
Applicants will need to be compassionate, dynamic, reliable and flexible with an ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills and demonstrable post registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
Applicants will need to be able to adjust, readily to different situations and be able to work the full range of shifts including long days and nights.
We pride ourselves on developing our staff and you will be supported by our Lead Education Senior Sister. This dedicated training support enables us to provide you with an excellent induction, support with re-validation and an ongoing training package. We have development pathways for all different interests and a support network to help you achieve.
We would recommend that you attend for an informal visit to the unit and to meet some of the team.
Main duties of the job
The Acute Medical Unit is a 26 bedded unit which includes 8 cardiac monitored spaces and works closely within the emergency pathway.
We are looking for a compassionate, dynamic, reliable and flexible nurse with an ability to demonstrate strong leadership skills and demonstrable post registration experience in an acute hospital setting.
Applicants will need to have excellent clinical skills, knowledge and communication skills with exemplary standards of care. Along with this being innovative, creating change and a passion for acute medicine is a must.
Experience within leadership is essential.

Experience
* Has completed practice supervisor and assessor training
* Evidence of mentoring and developing junior staff
* Evidence of working in an acute care setting
* Demonstrable experience of working as band 5 within an acute care setting
Skills
* Evidence of clinical knowledge in caring for and recognising clinically unwell patients
* Evidence of addressing issues relating to clinical governance
* Leadership skills and awareness of HR practices
