The Role:
The Education and Inclusion (E and I) Branch are looking to appoint a Lead Safeguarding Advisor (Education) for Hampshire County Council (HCC).
You will report to the County Education Manager (Vulnerable & Early intervention) and provide support, advice and challenge across all age phases and education settings in Hampshire. This is a countywide role with a mix of strategic and operational responsibilities, with a clear and defined focus on safeguarding. You will need to work closely with colleagues within and across the wider children’s partnership as well as headteachers, governors and others who have influence in schools to meet the needs of individual learners and improve outcomes for all children. The role brings significant, system wide responsibilities and you will be required to provide training, support, advice and challenge to education settings in respect of safeguarding. To do this effectively, you will maintain strong links with the Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) and act as a key education representative in a range of HSCP meetings, initiatives and training, as appropriate.
You should bring experience and expertise in the field of safeguarding, and would be required to keep abreast of legislation, new initiatives and developments and ensure senior officers, the wider E and I Branch and schools and settings are appraised of these as appropriate. An understanding of, and commitment to, multi-agency working is a key component of this role and as a senior Local Authority officer, you will be expected to influence and develop practice and thinking across the system. You will have significant experience as a senior leader in a school, with a successful record in leading and supporting school improvement and is likely to have acted as a Safeguarding Lead. In addition, you will be able to evidence highly effective, interpersonal, people-management skills.
