Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s Retail business growth WW through three core tasks. These are (a) Selection, where RBS sources, creates and enrich ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination: where RBS resolves inbound supply chain defects and develops root cause fixes to improve free cash flow and (c) supports operational process for WW Retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The tech team in RBS develops large scale automations that combines creative problem solving, Machine/Deep Learning and human workforces to scale execution of the tasks.
WHAT DOES AN APPLICATION ENGINEER DO AT AMAZON RBS? As Application Engineer (AE), you will be instrumental in helping us develop and support large scale automation technologies on this platform to increase global coverage and efficiency. You will work directly with our business teams to solve their support needs with the existing applications, collect requirements, and define ways to automate manual tasks with highly scalable solutions in collaboration with other technical teams. You will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the solutions you provide. You will work with our other technical teams to ensure the design is effective and complements other Amazon tools and in-house custom developed applications across platform stacks (including SQL, Java/.NET/C#/Perl/Python) or SaaS.
You will also be developing/supporting enterprise-wide implementations of Web Applications/SaaS applications.
Key job responsibilities:
1. Knowledge in OOPS
2. Hands-on experience in scripting
3. Hands-on experience in SQL/NOSQL Databases
4. Strong coding/debugging/troubleshooting of Java based applications
5. Be a creative problem solver, who is passionate about innovation and customer experience.
6. Have strong written and oral communication skills
7. Strong understanding of support processes – Have enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment
8. Hands-on experience in Cloud technology is a plus.
9. Hands-on experience with distributed applications/enterprise applications is a plus.
10. Can deal with ambiguity; work with minimum supervision
Minimum Qualifications:
1. 4+ years of software development, or 4+ years of technical support experience
2. Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems
3. Experience in Unix
4. Experience scripting in modern programming languages
5. Experience in agile/scrum or related collaborative workflow
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of distributed applications/enterprise applications
2. Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating system
3. Experience analyzing and troubleshooting RESTful web API calls
