Consultant Psychiatrist in Crisis and Psychiatry Liaison Services

This is a new consultant psychiatrist post split across our young person's crisis team and our newly commissioned psychiatry liaison team for young people covering the Great North Children's hospital.
We are looking for an enthusiastic applicant who will enjoy the challenge of shaping a newly commissioned service and working in one of the most prodigious children's hospitals in the country.
In addition to the above, the successful applicant will work with our well-established young people's crisis team bringing expertise and leadership.
Overall, we are looking for an applicant who will bring flexibility to their role so that the needs of young people in mental health crises will be responded to appropriately whether in the community or the hospital setting.

Main Duties of the Job
The candidate will join the multi-disciplinary team meetings in the morning to discuss which patients need consultant input and jointly plan their day with the other members of the team according to priority, clinical risk, etc.
The candidate will need to think flexibly and often on their feet as plans may change if more urgent referrals come in.
The consultant role is a leadership and teaching role and therefore it will be imperative that the candidate is passionate about service development and sharing their expertise in both a formal and informal way.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* MBBS (or equivalent).
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
* Included on GMC Specialist Register (CAMHS) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT.
* Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* Approved Clinician Status.
* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field.
* Has undergone training in educational supervision.
* Has undergone training in appraisal.
Knowledge
* Up to date knowledge in the field of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
* Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation.
* An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies.
Experience
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
* Wide clinical experience in CAMHS in different clinical settings.
* Experience of Clinical Audit.
* Experience in multiagency work especially with service users, carers, and voluntary agencies.
* Experience in service management or development.
Skills
* High level of clinical skills.
* Able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Proven competence in diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders in children and young people up to 18 years of age.
* Excellent teaching skills.
* Demonstrate the ability to work in a time-efficient manner.
* Established record of clinical leadership.
* Established ability as a clinical teacher.
* Training in specific and relevant treatment skills e.g., a brief form of psychological therapy.

Salary: £105,504 to £139,882 a year pro rata for part time.
