We are looking for a driven and experienced maintenance supervisor to join our team in the engineering department at our site in Irlam, Manchester. The role will include managing a team of six fitters/electricians over a single shift and overseeing the day-to-day maintenance plans and execution, along with driving improvement projects throughout the department and factory. The ideal candidate will be well versed in a manufacturing environment and have both mechanical and electrical experience.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Management:
* Build a high-performing, multi-skilled maintenance team of fitters and electricians, setting clear performance standards and accountability.
* Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols.
* Develop and oversee SOPs for consistent and traceable processes.
* Foster a disciplined, safety-first work environment focused on efficiency and continuous improvement.
Maintenance Operations:
* Lead daily maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
* Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs to enhance equipment longevity.
* Organize incoming repair, project, and breakdown jobs for efficient resolution within schedule.
Quality and Performance Improvement:
* Maintain high standards in mechanical and electrical work, prioritizing safety and quality.
* Track downtime, analyse trends, and implement solutions for improved maintenance outcomes.
Organisation and Housekeeping:
* Keep repair areas organised and uphold housekeeping standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
* Keep accurate records of maintenance, equipment performance, and inventory.
* Provide regular updates to the Engineering Manager on team performance, resource needs, and budgets.
Qualifications/ Experience:
* Relevant qualifications in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or a related field (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC/HND, etc.).
* IOSH/NEBOSH Health and safety qualifications (NVQ Level 2 or above)
* Additional Electrical experience with PLC Logic and Troubleshooting (Siemens/Mitsubishi) – Preferred
* Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
* Strong knowledge of maintenance management practices, including preventive maintenance programs and troubleshooting techniques.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and engage a diverse team.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
