This is a substantive appointment. This post is being offered within the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS Trust, which includes Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital and the North Devon District Hospital. Working together gives us the opportunity to offer unique and varied careers across our services combining our track record of excellence in research, teaching and links to the University with NDHT’s innovation and adaptability. The base hospital, on call requirement and residency requirement for this post is for the Northern Services, based at North Devon District Hospital (Barnstaple). There are currently no cross-cover arrangements for anaesthetic services between the hospitals. If this were necessary in the future, the expectation is that work would be equitably distributed within the anaesthetic department.
About the Role
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Anaesthetics at North Devon District Hospital, part of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Northern Services). The acute hospital in Barnstaple provides a full complement of secondary care services for the local population, including emergency care, cancer services, maternity and paediatric services.
The successful applicant will join the Department of Anaesthesia, Critical Care and Pain. General Anaesthetics Consultants responsibilities include elective delivery and being part of a general anaesthetics on call rota. The role allows excellent opportunities to develop your professional career alongside an excellent work life balance. We are currently looking for a generalist anaesthetist and are able to support specialist areas of interest, including Obstetrics and Preoperative Care.
Located in the South West of England, North Devon is recognised as an area of outstanding natural beauty and includes the UK’s only World Surfing Reserve. It extends from the edge of Exmoor in the east to Lundy Island in the west and the Taw Valley in the south, providing contrasts of moor land, downs, valleys, rugged cliffs and golden sandy beaches, thus providing a range of interests and activities.
