Do you have passion to make a difference to people's lives by supporting those that are experiencing homelessness?
In this role, you will be working in a high quality Support Service and your responsibility will be supporting residents who live in Swindon Borough Council owned/managed supported temporary accommodation, assisting residents to develop their knowledge, skills and ability to live independently.
Your next role
We are looking for an individual who can excel their skills with supporting individuals with various complex needs including substance misuse, mental health and offending or challenging behaviour in our temporary accommodation buildings, with the aim to prepare them to live and sustain permanent accommodation, becoming 'Tenancy Ready' in order to successfully move on to their next tenancy, at the correct time.
As part of this role you will be based at one of the Swindon Borough Council's supported housing schemes. Working with a case load of homeless clients, following assessment of suitability. You will be providing meaningful emotional and practical support to produce positive outcomes.
The support ranges from basic benefit advice and assistance to challenging behaviours. You will provide a trauma informed approach, understanding the impacts of homelessness whilst building a positive relationship with the customer. We are looking for someone that can remain calm, professional and resilient to challenging behaviour, at all times.
You will need to carry out a strength-based assessment with the customer, making a plan and enact support actions/interventions, which will assist clients to achieve their goals and move towards a sustainable life. You will need to identify the complex needs of often highly vulnerable and high risk clients, which will include, substance misuse, alcohol dependence, mental health issues, offending and violent behaviour, anti-social behaviour and individuals involved in the sex trade, and making appropriate referrals to services.
You will need to have a good understanding of health and safety and welfare benefit system, as well as understanding of safeguarding issues, and acting upon these, including participation and contributions to multi agency meetings.
We aim to break the cycle of tenancy failure and your job will be to equip residents with the necessary skills to sustain a future tenancy.
You will be based and responsible for the daily management of one of our supported housing schemes between 8.00am - 16:00pm Monday to Thursday and 08:00am - 15:30pm Friday for the full time vacancy.
The part time vacancy hours of work, will be discussed and agreed with the line manager.
