Trust Doctor - ST3+ level in Emergency Medicine
The Emergency Department at Whipps Cross Hospital is excited to have an opportunity to expand our medical workforce. We are a very cohesive and friendly department, and we are looking for ST3+ doctors with NHS experience, who are skilled at making senior level decisions, in Emergency Medicine to join us.
These posts are suitable for candidates wishing to expand their experience and practical clinical skills. Previous doctors in these posts have successfully entered training programmes in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care and Acute Medicine specialities. The posts are initially for 12 months with the possibility to extend.
You will join a well-supported and aspirational Emergency Department which has a strong focus on education and training. We will give you the opportunity to gain exposure and clinical management skills in pathologies which reflect the diverse local population. Whipps Cross Hospital has a strong reputation as a centre of excellence for various specialist services, including urology, ENT, ophthalmology, cardiology, colorectal surgery, cancer care and acute stroke care, and is the Frailty Centre for the Trust.
Within the ED we offer opportunities for career development and progression and have a dedicated, ring-fenced two hours a week middle grade teaching programme.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have a good general medical background with experience in Emergency Medicine and the ability to diagnose, treat and appropriately dispose of patients presenting as an emergency. The following competencies comprise a list the majority of which the post holder would have achieved in previous posts before being appointed. Those not achieved at the time of appointment should be acquired under the supervision of the Consultants in Emergency Medicine:

Job responsibilities
* To work and provide clinical care to ensure patient safety and safe clinical practice.
* To provide support as a senior doctor in the ED for junior staff.
* You will be aiming to be the most senior registrar after 10 PM in the Emergency Department with the consultant available for advice on phone.
* To work with the nursing and allied health care staff to ensure good clinical care is provided.
* To work under the guidance of the ED consultants and seek their advice as appropriate.
* To work in designated areas of the ED which would include RAT (rapid assessment and Triage), Resuscitation, majors, minors and paediatrics.
* To work in the ED clinical decision unit area.
* To continue to maintain their own CPD and address their learning needs as determined by local, regional and national directives.
* Diagnosis, resuscitation and initial treatment of all emergency patients. These comprise of self-referred and ambulance cases.
Person Specification
Qualifications and knowledge
* MB ChB or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration
* Full MRCEM or equivalent.
* MRCP
* MRCS
Experience and Skills
* Medical knowledge commensurate with grade
* 3 years relevant hospital experience at SHO level or above, of which at least 12 MONTHS in Emergency Medicine
* Understanding of ALS/ATLS/APLS principles
Personal and people development
* Good communication skills both written and verbal.
* Able to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Communication
* Commitment to quality care.
* Ability to organize one's CPD.
* Enthusiasm in teaching junior doctors, medical students and nurses.
* Involvement in clinical audit.
* IELTS score of 7.5 or above.
Specific requirements
* The post holder will be required to work shifts and flexible hours including overnight shifts.
