Job summary
Applications are invited for the position of Locum Consultant in Emergency Medicine. This is a fixed term post of 1 year to cover maternity leave. The post will be based in the Emergency Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, part of the NHS Humber Health Partnership. The NHS Humber Health Partnership has an annual budget of circa £1.4billion, employs over 17,000 staff and sees well over 1 million patients / year with around 275000 attendances at the Emergency Departments.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be part of a team of up to 23 Consultants. Clinical duties are shared between Consultants and will include all duties normally expected of any Major Trauma Centre Emergency Department. This includes clinical and non-clinical responsibilities.
Clinical sessions will be worked in the department seeing patients for senior decision-making and supporting the junior staff. This will include evening and weekend working. The shift pattern is described below.

Qualifications
Essential
1. Full GMC registration with license to practice
2. Entry on the Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months)
3. FRCEM or equivalent

4. Higher degree relevant to health care
Clinical Experience
Essential
5. Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST/CCT in Emergency Medicine
6. Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems within the specialty
7. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
8. ATLS/ETC+ALS+EPAL/APLS provider (via course or supporting evidence of equivalent competence)
Desirable
9. Experience as an ATLS, ALS or EPLS/APLS instructor
10. Experience as a consultant in an adult Major Trauma Centre
11. Experience of advanced resuscitation skills
12. Evidence of developing links with other acute specialities
13. Expertise in bedside ultrasound
