Main duties of the job

As Finance Apprentice, your key responsibilities will include a variety of tasks in both Management Accounts and Financial Accounts, providing essential support to the finance team.
General Responsibilities:
* Process financial information accurately, ensuring compliance with procedures for statutory returns.
* Investigate financial inquiries, offering assistance and advice when needed.
* Ensure all work meets financial, legal, and time requirements.
* Input, monitor, and verify financial data as required.
* Collaborate with team members to generate information for reporting purposes.
* Pursue the successful completion of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualification while gaining practical experience.
* Undertake additional delegated duties aligned with your role and grade.
Management Accounts:
* Support the Management Accounts team with payroll and running costs budgets, investigating variances.
* Attend budget manager meetings alongside colleagues.
* Assist with journal preparation and posting.
* Contribute to the monthly reporting process.
* Provide support to the Financial Accounts team, assisting with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Cash Management.

Purpose of the role
The role will involve rotations across Management Accounts and Financial Services to gain knowledge and experience of the different aspects of NHS finance, alongside studying for a nationally recognised qualification, the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) via an Apprenticeship.

On completion of Assistant Accountant L3 Apprenticeship standard, consideration will be given to progression to Professional Accounting/Taxation Technician L4 Apprenticeship standard.
The role is primarily office-based, with 80% of your time spent working within our team and 20% allocated to college studies as part of your apprenticeship training.
Key responsibilities of the role

* Investigating and responding to queries including emails that arrive via the finance generic email inboxes.
* Validation of Non-Contract Activity invoices.

* To attend any training associated with the apprenticeship programme and complete units within deadlines.

Person Specification
Experience
* An understanding of the requirements of a financial environment within the public or private sector.
Knowledge and Skills
* Understanding of finance department procedures e.g., inputting data into Finance systems, standard reporting requirements that are required in finance areas.
* Knowledge of IT systems and software programmes such as financial services, Outlook, Word, Excel, and databases.
* Standard keyboard skills in order to input financial data into computer databases and spreadsheets where speed and accuracy are necessary.
