Locum Governance Officer – Midlands Council – 6 Month Contract

Location: Predominantly remote with in-person meetings twice a week.
Duration: 6 months (extension possible).
Rate: Dependent on experience.
Hours: Full-time (37 hours per week).
Venn Group’s specialist legal team is delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Locum Governance Officer to join a Midlands Council. This role provides the chance to contribute to governance innovation while supporting essential Council operations.
Key Responsibilities
* Clerking formal and informal committees, ensuring compliance with procedural rules.
* Managing education appeals, including admission and exclusion cases.
* Assisting with governance service improvements and democratic engagement initiatives.
* Delivering training and contributing to innovative governance practices.
Candidate Requirements
* Proven experience in governance and education appeals (desired but not essential)
* Strong organisational and administrative skills.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
