You will drive a lorry from our exceptional fleet of Volvo vehicles, all less than 4 years old. They’re a joy to drive, equipped to a high specification, including fridges, leather seats, and many more optional extras to ensure your comfort.
Most of our sites operate from Monday to Friday, with 45-hour working weeks and 9-hour shifts per day, typically starting at 5/6pm. Our well-organised shift schedules mean you often know in advance where you’ll be driving, taking the stress out of your day.
The role provides job security within a growing global business. We operate a busy fleet, ensuring there’s always work available. If you want additional hours, you can have them, and we offer enhanced rates of pay for bank holidays. You’ll be joining a friendly team; our drivers often stay with us for many years as we treat them well, supporting each other and sharing traffic updates through WhatsApp!
Key Role Responsibilities
We don’t micromanage our drivers. We trust them to get the job done and plan their own routes. This job involves trunking to regional hubs on the night shift. If you enjoy the independence of being out on the open road for long stretches but want to be home at the end of every 9-hour shift, this is the job for you.
You’ll ensure that cages, pallets, freight, stillages, and yorks get to and from customers on time. At some sites, the goods will be loaded or unloaded for you; at others, you’ll need to do it yourself. Scanning consignments and driving pallet trucks will sometimes be part of your day.
You’ll be responsible for inspecting your vehicle and trailer every day and completing a Defect Report if necessary.
You will ensure everything is ‘right first time’ for your customers, both internal and external. As a great communicator, you’ll work hard to keep customers happy, ensuring any queries you can’t answer are passed on to your site manager quickly.
The ideal candidate will have:
1. Class 1 Driving licence
2. Completed required DCPC training hours or be working towards them
3. Excellent knowledge of Road Transport Laws and commitment to safe use of the roads
4. A ‘can do’ attitude
