Vacancy Description
You will be working as part of the team at our Bristol Construction Sites, including Beaufort House, Walwyn Gardens, St Jude’s, Ropewalk, and Northfield House. On a daily basis, you will assist in developing, reviewing, and checking the implementation of safe systems of work, delivering training (e.g., toolbox talks & inductions), investigating incidents, analyzing incident and near-miss data, and presenting findings to the on-site management team and the Head of SHEQ.
As a Health, Safety, and Environment Apprentice, you will engage with all aspects of the business to support the embedding of a culture that is open and honest and improves where required.
This will be achieved by working with site representatives and influencing others (contractors) to see the benefit of working responsibly, understanding the legal framework, and showing how safety, health, and environmental management can enhance operational activities.
Responsibilities
* Learning to apply a range of information technology and interpersonal skills to provide excellent service to both internal and external customers, including answering incoming calls, responding to emails, and assisting with basic administrative duties.
* Learning to work effectively as part of a team and on your own initiative, developing excellent communication skills and dealing with all queries effectively and efficiently.
* Learning how to accurately maintain records, both manual and computerized.
* Gaining a good understanding of risk assessments, safe systems of work, together with policies and procedures.
* Undertake site visits to construction sites to check on site safety standards.
* Maintain excellent levels of attendance at college/tutor sessions and successfully achieve a level 3 qualification.
* Always work in a “safe” way ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory requirements, best practices, and continuous improvement.
* Ensure actions and behaviors fully support the Trust’s Equality, Diversity & Inclusion.
* Deliver SHE training, toolbox talks, inductions, or present data or investigation findings to the workforce or management team.
* Assist the management team in the development, management, implementation, and monitoring of the Safety, Health, and Environmental Management System by updating systems in line with changes in legislation or best practices, delivering training, coaching operational teams, and undertaking workplace inspections.
* Provide advice on the practical implementation of the company’s SHE policies and processes, applying generic industry guidance into the context of the workplace.
* Assist with the monitoring, analysis of, and reporting on SHE performance.
* Assist the management team in establishing, managing, and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, Occupational Health, Occupational Hygienists, and others as required and directed.
* Assist and/or manage the investigation of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences, near misses, and other incidents as directed.
Additional Information / Requirements
* The apprentice will be required to travel to different sites as and when required.
* As the role involves travel to different sites, you should hold a full clean UK driving license and preferably be a car owner.
* You will be required to add business use to your personal insurance policy (any associated costs would need to be met by the apprentice).

Training
This apprenticeship will be delivered in the workplace. You will have a dedicated assessor who will provide guidance and monitor progress throughout. You will have access to an online portfolio to allow you to monitor your progress and log work completed.
