About Risk, Control and Financial Accounting Directorate Risk, Control and Financial Accounting Directorate is part of the Chief Finance Officer Group and fulfils a vital role at the heart of HMRC. We are responsible for ensuring that HMRC plans and manages its performance, makes good decisions and is held to account on accurate financial and performance data. Our activity helps HMRC account excellently for everything HMRC does. Job description This is a role in the Accounting Assurance & Reporting team (AAR) and would suit an individual who wants to work in finance IT with an interest in developing their knowledge of tax and accounting systems. The systems team is brand new and is building its expert finance systems skills to support HMRC through its tax modernisation and digital transformation programme. The role will suit you if you like to collaborate, are confident, able to clearly explain technical finance IT functionality in plain English. The role involves agile working and resolving complex and challenging issues. It is ideal if you want to make systems work better for people who need to process and report volumes of financial information on a very large-scale. This is a technically challenging role, where you will be expected to be enthusiastic to develop your technical skills. You will be fully supported in gaining knowledge about HMRCs financial systems and about how we operate. It is important that applicants can work flexibly, learn quickly, adapt to changing priorities and be comfortable working with ambiguity in a dynamic environment. Person specification Reporting to a SO Systems Accountant, activities of the role include: Developing into a finance systems technical expert. Engage with stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement. Researching, organising and analysing technical finance system design and how they relate to and interact with financial processes. Working with stakeholders to design and develop in-house reporting capability to better inform the business. Keeping up with latest finance technology with suppliers, user groups and other Shared Services teams across Government and Cabinet Office. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and contribute to the development of the forward look on HMRC transformation and business plans. Working across the team supporting learning & development, communications and other team-wide activities and other business administration. Engaged to understand specific End to End processes. Assure that financial systems procedures and processes are fully documented. Undertaking vital admin functions at both a team level and across the wider directorate. The ideal candidate will think innovatively in researching and problem-solving technical finance problems. They will be a team player, communicating and working collaboratively with a range of internal stakeholders. They will put customer service at the heart of what they do. Essential Criteria: Working knowledge and experience of SAP. Extensive financial expertise and experience of working in the finance function of a large and complex organisation and good knowledge of finance processes. Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to a diverse audience both orally and in writing. Resilience and the ability to manage conflicting priorities in a fast-paced working environment. Willingness to develop their technical system and finance skills. Desirable Criteria: Evidence of completion of relevant IT finance system training. Experience in delivering financial system change. Experience of business analysis in a public sector environment. AAT Level 3 qualification or studying towards this or equivalent.
