Let us introduce the role AWE is currently recruiting for Health Physics surveyors for the Estate and Liabilities Group, Health Physics. This role is ideally suited to a proactive person who works well with others as well as on their own. Working within the Health Physics Team the successful candidate will provide practical radiological support to facility staff and to carry out radiological tasks as part of the health physics function and to advise facility staff on radiological issues. Also provide support to LC11 requirements (emergency response) as part of the local and site minimum manning numbers. Ensure regulatory tasks are completed as per instructions. In addition to supporting the Site Emergency Response arrangements. Who are we looking for? We do need you to have the following: A good level of standard education in Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent) Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we’d like you to have experience in some of the following: Experience of working in an engineering or manufacturing environment however, it is not essential as training will be given UK Driving licence, this is not essential but is desirable. Radiological monitoring, although not essential as training is given. You’ll need to have the ability to work calmly and constructively in a priority changing environment and be able to manage your own workload. You will also have initiative, enthusiasm, a flexible approach, and ability to work to tight deadlines. Health physics training programme comprises of : A robust in-house training programme 2-year initial training programme which includes multiple placements during the first 2 years Workplace competency assessments Creation of evidence portfolios NVQ Level 2 Diploma in radiation protection Key Requirements Able to work at both Aldermaston and Burghfield Good communication skills Ability to work within a team Good attention to detail Basic IT skills in Microsoft Word and Excel Knowledge of basic health and safety practice an advantage Experience of an engineering or manufacturing environment however it is not essential as training will be given Willing and able to wear all types of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including Respiratory Protective Equipment (RPE) Our standard working pattern is a 9-day fortnight which comes with the benefit of every other Friday off. Some areas operate different patterns depending on the business need. Special requirements In order to obtain the required security for these roles you will need to be 18 years of age or over. These roles require personnel to be registered as Classified Radiation Workers under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017. Fitness will be assessed at a Level 1 pre-employment medical held at AWE Aldermaston which follows the initial selection process, the assessment will include but not be limited to: Ensuring candidates meet all the medical requirements of the role and have a suitable level of fitness to wear appropriate PPE and a negative pressure respirator (C50 or equivalent) – the role may also require other forms of RPE to be worn to undertake their duties. Candidates should be aware that one the key requirements for ascertaining the fitness level relates to Body Mass Index (BMI). Candidates for the role of Health Physics Surveyor must have a BMI of less than 35. The fitness for working in other types of hazardous environs e.g. explosive, toxic.
