An opportunity has arisen for a Technical Director or a strong Associate Director to join an engineering design consultancy that specialises in civil and structural design works across Rail and Highways. Based from Their Glasgow office you will managing projects through inception to business case, to planning, right through to implementation and handover. Their services stretch across both the public and private sectors, and for large and small organisations. Key responsibilities: Liaising with internal and external stakeholders and dealing directly with Clients, this will include building close relationships with them. Departmental P&L responsibility, with a focus on driving profitability and winning more work. This position offers a high level of autonomy, particularly in the management and development of the Scotland office. You will have the freedom to shape the direction and growth of the office, with the flexibility to explore innovative approaches and take ownership of your projects. You will be responsible for the line management of an experienced and well-established team, providing guidance, support, and leadership to ensure continued success and high performance. Manage and negotiate tenders and contracts with clients, ensuring that all agreements are thoroughly reviewed, competitive, and compliant with company standards and legal requirements. You will be held accountable for the profitability of the Scotland office, regularly reporting to the company's director on the office's performance, financial outcomes, and ensuring profitability targets are met. Staying up to date on the market and the key players, particularly tier 1s as this is who you will be working closely with. Held responsible for your team and self-sufficiency over the team, where you may be required to make hard calls. Implement quality assurance processes to ensure the design outputs and construction activities align with project specifications, industry standards, and client expectations. Experience, knowledge & skills required Previous Senior or Executive rail design consultancy experience. Previously dealt with departmental P&L responsibilities. Civil engineering background within rail. Stakeholder and client management. Commercial and engineering knowledge such as negotiation of tenders and contracts. A high level of self sufficiency with a drive to succeed. Extensive knowledge of the market in Scotland particularly within the Rail sector.
