Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT
We are looking to appoint a dynamic person for this post who along with other existing 8 Urologists, will provide a compensative elective and emergency urological service for patients from South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire.

The post holder will provide services on more than one site. The appointed consultant is expected to provide a general urology service along with the opportunity to develop a sub speciality interest depending on departmental needs and candidate's sub speciality interest. An interest in day case surgery and transperineal prostate biopsy would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the delivery and development of Urology services across all Trust sites, working with 8 other consultant colleagues to deliver high quality care. The consultants are supported by 6 Urology specific Speciality Doctors/ Specialist Registrars in addition to ward-based resident doctors and 2 Urology ANP's at DRI.
The department is actively involved in teaching and training of junior medical staff and health care professionals and is active in clinical research. there are regular seminars and clinical governance meetings. Prospective cross cover will be provided for consultant colleague absence, which would include regular ward rounds.
Secretarial support is provided at Bassetlaw Hospital, Montagu Hospital and Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Job responsibilities
To maintain the highest clinical standards in the care of patients with Urological problems
To provide out-patient and in-patient care for patients with Urological problems and cancer
To provide 24/7 acute urology oncall service as per on call rota
To share with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the service
To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the department
To share with colleagues the responsibility for teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students
To participate actively in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance work to ensure continual improvements in the quality and safety of care
To participate in the recruitment of patients to clinical trials
To maintain and further personal learning through generic Trust training and Speciality Specific Training (CPD)
Person Specification
Qualifications
* FRCS Urology or equivalent
* You must be on the specialist register for Urology or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
* Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise
* You must have completed, or be within 6 months of completing, a 12-month recognised Urology clinical fellowship, or equivalent, within your area of sub-specialty interest, though this is not essential for the General Urology post.
Experience and Achievements
* Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Urology
* Must be able to operate as an independent Urological surgeon, and demonstrate adequate experience for the supervision of trainees
* Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on range of problems within Urology
* Wide based experience in Urology and ability to perform trans-perineal prostate biopsies
* Understanding current issues within Urology and the future direction of the specialty
* Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
* Attendance at a recognised management course
* Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
Teaching and training
* Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.
* Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
* Training in clinical and educational supervision
* Attendance at a teaching course
* Formal qualification in teaching/education
Audit and Research
* Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes
* Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
