Since its founding in 2017, The REAL Co. has become one of the leading sophisticated alcohol-free beverages in the UK and across Europe. Brewed using fermentation techniques usually found in fine wines and craft beers, we have developed a patent pending alcohol-free fermentation technology that can compete with the best sparkling wines. We have gained a loyal following amongst the leading sommeliers and restaurateurs (served in 60 Michelin starred restaurants) and are now the leading premium alcohol-free sparkling in Waitrose, M&S, Ocado and Sainsbury’s.
Working out of our purpose built, state-of-the art Fermentery on the Waddesdon Estate, just one hour from Central London, we have a current capacity of 250,000L per month but are expanding this fast. We also bottle and can all of this production on site. And we are now preparing for US expansion.
The Role
Your role as Senior Packaging Operator will cover the areas below. Your time will be taken up substantially in the day-to-day operations of bottling and canning and may include fermentation and filtration. Your unique and critical responsibilities will be in packaging (becoming the support to our Packaging Lead).
Your specific technical responsibilities revolve around ensuring that our liquid is packaged and stored to meet our stringent quality standards. This includes:
* Packaging: assisting the Packaging Lead in operating and maintaining both the bottling and canning lines, this includes:
* Alternating between the role of shift supervisor or shift support on the packaging lines to spread the load between the team and as the needs of production require.
* Follow the REAL Drinks Packaging SOP exactly and diligently
* Follow health and safety requirements exactly, ensure cleanliness at all times.
* Understand potential risks in packaging and mitigation against these risks
* Analyse the performance of the packaging lines and suggest ways in which the efficiency of packaging can be improved.
* Work with the Packaging lead and Head of Production to make operational improvements, to update SOPs and train the team as appropriate.
* Fermentation and filtration: Support the fermentation and filtration team where required
* Warehouse: Support in the warehouse pre and post packaging runs as required
The candidate is likely:
* To have several years of experience in packaging in food or drinks, preferably including bottling or canning of drinks
* To have a mechanical, hands on approach to problem solving with the ability to help identify core issues and assist in fixing equipment on the packaging lines and in the fermentery
* To be comfortable with ambiguity and an environment that is growing fast and constantly in flux
* To enjoy being an integral and influential part of a tight and friendly team
* Be a self starter, show initiative and constantly learn from those around them
* Be available to work as the demand requires. We do not work long hours, but we are focused on finishing the task at hand.
* Be agile and lend their hand to a task, even if it is outside of their role / job title
* Have a positive, get up and go attitude
