Wellbeing and Neuro Cancer Navigator - Fixed Term/Secondment

Band 3 £24,071 - £25,674 Per annum
Hours 37.5 per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working
We are pleased to offer a 12mth fixed term/secondment opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Cancer services team as a Wellbeing and Neuro Cancer Navigator. The post holder will support the speciality team in the smooth running of the cancer patient tracking list, scheduling and booking appointments, managing patient calls and supporting the Nurse specialists with their Holistic needs assessment service as well as group activity involvement
You should have experience of working in a customer focused environment and have knowledge of customer care. We are looking for individuals with excellent communication and IT skills with the ability to work well under pressure and a desire to provide a first class service for patients and clinical teams to support patient living with and beyond cancer
This rapidly expanding modern and busy unit offers many training opportunities for their staff, recent developments have led to investment and ongoing development plans for a cancer centre onsite and a radiotherapy centre in conjunction with Oxford University Hospital. This developing service is supported by a forward thinking & supportive Management Team, Nurse Practitioners, Palliative Care Team & Macmillan Information and Support Centre

• To become a valued member of the Macmillan Wellbeing Team and to foster excellent working relationships with staff and volunteers in the cancer centre.
• To act as the patient/service user navigator for the wellbeing service, working with local and national guidance for people living with and beyond cancer.
• To be a central point of communication for patients on a cancer pathway and service users alike, ensuring that they are supported and given helpful information. To signpost to the appropriate departments and escalate to clinical teams as required.
• To support the wellbeing team with clinic bookings and all aspects of the information and support/wellbeing service, groups, courses and events.

Trust Responsibilities
• To be part of the Macmillan Wellbeing team and wider Cancer Centre team, and work to enable the objectives of the Trust to be achieved.
• To contribute to the Trust complying with Clinical Governance and Risk Management, as well as the trust core values.
Operational Responsibilities
•
To work in conjunction with the Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure patients, GPs and referring hospitals are aware of the progression of treatment (i.e. dates and results of tests, operation etc.).
• To have a full working knowledge and understanding of the national plan and holistic framework for cancer pathways.
Administration Wellbeing
• To demonstrate a high level of ability in interpersonal and IT skills.
• Deal with incoming mail and support the wellbeing co-ordinator in managing emails in the macmillan.info inbox.
Administration Neuro
• Help with the preparation of clinic, both new and follow up appointments
• Answer calls to the neuro oncology phone/triage the telephone calls
People
• To be a welcoming presence at the wellbeing lounge reception desk and offer refreshments to all visitors.
• Liaise with several internal departments and outside agencies, for example: GP practices, via email, telephone or face to face in a professional manner.
Practical
• To help ensure the wellbeing lounge and associated areas, including the kitchenette are presentable at all times.
• To help set up and take down preparation for wellbeing events such as: HOPE, Look good feel better, Wellbeing support group etc.
Educational
• To complete mandatory training required by the trust and to enhance knowledge about cancer through the use of Macmillan Learning Hub/Learnzone.
• Demonstrate the ability to work on own initiative and make decisions.
System Usage
• IT Word, Access excel, email and Care Records Systems (CRS), Somerset
Teaching and Training
• Ensure all mandatory training is maintained in accordance of Trusts guidelines and policies
• In house training encouraged and external training supported
