A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF
I am a 53-year-old lady living in the Llantwit Major area with my husband. I have Multiple Sclerosis, a condition that affects my brain and spinal cord and I am a wheelchair user. I am visually impaired with only peripheral vision. I am fun loving with a great sense of humour; I also have a keen interest in gardening and outdoors.
PURPOSE OF JOB
I would like to employ a personal assistant to support my independence with my day to day living such as, meal preparation, personal care, social activities, shopping and general housework. I would like to find a PA I can rely on, with a professional demeanour and experience in the care sector.
PLACE OF WORK
At my home in Llantwit Major and around the local areas like Porthcawl, Bridgend, Barry, Cardiff
RATE OF PAY
£12.60 per hour plus double pay on bank holidays
HOURS OF WORK
PA 1- 12 hours per week
09:30-12:00 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
10:00-12:00 Wednesday
PA 2- 13 hours per week
12:30-15:30 Monday, Wednesday, Friday
13:30-15:30 Tuesday, Thursday
TASKS INVOLVED
Duties to include (but this list is not exhaustive):
• Personal care
• Helping the district nurse with cleaning or help after an enema
• Dressing and hoisting in/out of bed/wheelchair/armchair
• Catheter care including emptying urine bag
• Laundry
• General daily living tasks (washing up, cleaning, hoovering, ironing, dusting etc.)
• Meal preparation
• Going out on social and shopping trips, this may involve driving to various locations in the locality (Porthcawl, Bridgend, Barry, Cardiff) and support whilst there
• Take me swimming
• To help in the garden
• To be responsible for my safety at all times
• A full clean driving licence (for insurance reasons) and confident to drive a VW Transporter (Transit sized vehicle) – desirable.
• Some manual handling will be required, and training can be provided if necessary.
TYPE OF PERSON REQUIRED
• Good Communicator
• A person who is friendly, dependable and punctual.
• A person with a positive commitment to this kind of work.
• A person who respects the privacy and confidentiality of working in someone’s home
• A person who understands the needs of people with disabilities.
• Outgoing and fun loving
• An interest in gardening and the outdoors would be advantageous
• Resilient enough to cope with the sometimes-demanding nature of this role.
• Experience within the care sector is desirable but not essential
ABOUT THE JOB
This position is subject to satisfactory references and a DBS Disclosure (Police Check), which must be completed prior to the commencement of employment. The cost of this check will be covered by the Local Authority.
All necessary checks will be conducted to verify that any candidate has the legal right to work in the UK before employment begins.
Although this is a part-time role, it is a legitimate position requiring the submission of a National Insurance number. Employment will commence under an initial trial period.
Wages will be paid on a four-weekly and appropriate holiday pay will be provided.
