Job description
VSL, a leader in the construction industry, is seeking an experienced Estimator to join their team. As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting the company's tenders by creating work winning offers and ensuring compliance with VSL's strategy and guidance. This is a permanent position based at Becket House, VSL's central London location, with potential travel required across the UK and Europe.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Record and log all tender correspondence
2. Meet all proposal and estimate deadlines
3. Review tender documentation and provide feasibility advice
4. Prepare and submit tender queries and clarifications
5. Develop bills of quantities and schedules of rates for tender applications and 1st principle estimates
6. Create detailed proposals adhering to client guidelines and specifications
7. Ensure estimates and offers comply with relevant legislation and industry standards
8. Contribute to value engineering and alternative options during bid preparation
9. Coordinate projects with the Bid Manager, preconstruction Manager, and commercial manager
10. Collaborate with other departments to address client requirements in tender preparation documents
11. Analyze technical, legal, and financial aspects to develop a commercial strategy
12. Participate in bid negotiations
13. Prepare and submit subcontract enquiries
14. Review subcontract tender submissions for compliance and inclusion in the estimate
15. Identify and target future business opportunities
Job Requirements:
16. Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar discipline
17. Experience in Ground Engineering/Geotech estimating
18. Enthusiastic with an eye for detail
19. Ability to work effectively in a team
20. Good interpersonal skills
21. Tactical and strategic mindset
22. Profit-minded with a win-win attitude
23. Good level of English and French, other languages desirable
24. IT literacy including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email
25. Strong verbal and written communication skills
26. Knowledge of health and safety regulations
