JoinTeamEliot Main duties of the job The post holder will work under the supervision of the Consultant, delivering a high standard of nursing care based upon a sound evidence base, provide leadership and act as a specialist nursing resource to the patient, relatives and the multi-disciplinary team. Possess in-depth knowledge of the gastrointestinal tract with an understanding of the aetiology and pathogenesis of IBD and associated conditions. Undertake nurse-led clinics for IBD and Coeliac patients in the Outpatient Department under the supervision of the Consultant following guidelines and agreed protocols. Provide screening for IBD patients for infection risk on diagnosis. Knowledge and understanding of the pharmacology of the anti-TNF therapy and ensure administration of the therapy is within the NMC guidelines (2006) for the safe administration of medications. Liaise with MDT to provide timely and appropriate care for inpatient IBD patients. Provide a telephone advice line for IBD patients. Undertake Endoscopist training for Flexible Sigmoidoscopy and Gastroscopy. Working within the NMC Guidelines and Trust Policies recognising one's own abilities and limitations. Ability to interpret endoscopy, histology, pathology and radiology findings and understanding their significance in the management of IBD.
