This company has foundations going back over 100 years and has significant operations in the recycling, upgrading and trading of commodities. There is currently a need for a lawyer to take a leading role in supporting two businesses which form part of the wider group (trading and a cross-asset brokerage business).
Reporting directly into the Global General Counsel at group level and working closely with senior management of the two businesses, this role will involve advising both businesses on financial regulatory compliance matters as well as contributing to the development of policies, procedures and processes for existing and future product lines.
The role will also take lead on the relationship with senior management in these two businesses and will be supported at a strategic level by the General Counsel. The business is currently experiencing some exciting growth plans hence the need to expand the legal function for this wide-ranging role (it is intended the role will grow further in line with the business).
There will be a high level of autonomy and variety to the position and this position should act as a great foundational role for someone looking to develop "Head of Legal" skills for their long-term in-house career. It's therefore well suited to someone coming from private practice or in-house in a larger team.
The role is based at the head office in Central London (there are additionally offices in China and Singapore, regular travel won't be required but there may be some opportunity to travel to these offices on occasion). Like most modern businesses, the company offers a hybrid working policy; due to the nature of the role and the close working relationship with the business stakeholders, it's envisaged the successful candidate will want to be in the office at least 3 days per week.
What’s on offer?
This company is an established player in their space and the existing General Counsel is keen to give a lot of autonomy and space to this role to really help someone develop, especially with regards to strategic business relationships.
The business is highly collaborative, and this is an ideal time to be joining a business at an exciting new growth phase.
On offer is a salary of around £130,000 - £140,000 (DOE) + bonus of around £40,000 (based on personal and company performance).
