About the role: The NSRS PLARS Supervisor plays a key role in the delivery of operational capability of NSRS in the rescue readiness and operation of the NSRS Rescue System, providing the sub system enabler to launching the Submarine Rescue Vehicle. Supporting the In-Service Support Manager and the Maintenance Manager (steady state), the PLARS Supervisor will be responsible for the material readiness, including replenishment, defect troubleshooting and repair, pre- and post-operational checks and may have technicians supporting them. The PLARS Supervisor will direct and lead the mobilisation of the PLARS system to the deck of a vessel of opportunity and conduct operations at sea adhering to JFD policies, processes and procedures Your key responsibilities will also include: Accountable to the NSRS In Service Support Manager: To Provide, Operate, Deploy NSRS PLARS at the defined readiness states and be on call at “Rescue Ready” and “Safe to Operate” status, trained current, competent as required of the Service. Ashore at NSRS HQ provide leadership and ensure that all LARS and associated equipment maintenance is correctly controlled Implementing the Safety & Environmental Management System (SEMS) policy both within the company and with the vessel owner’s safety management system. Conducting a pre-operational briefing with the PLARS operations team so that all concerned are familiar with the purpose of the operation, proposed method of achieving its completion and the personnel filling key positions within the team. Specific emphasis will be placed on the safety of the operations, go-no go criteria and lessons identified from previous or similar operations. Ensures that the PLARS team remains current, competent and medically fit in Individual and Core team training. This includes oversight of contractor and subcontractors allocated to support NSRS. What do you need? A qualified time served Engineer with a mechanical background. Military/Commercial Submarine Rescue experience would be ideal. Time served in engineering hydraulics and demonstrable experience in the Lift Systems. Skills working in a submarine rescue systems and experience in Deck Operations. Ideally Public Service/Defence/Offshore background. Be familiar with working to marine and defence standards. Previous experience of commercially sensitive projects. Full clean driving Licence. Security Clearance (as required by service). Ideally you will also have: Previous experience of commercially sensitive projects. Knowledge of Lloyds Rules for Classified Systems. Be familiar with international Quality and Safety standards (ISO 9001, 45001 etc.). Familiar with working to facilities and defence standards (DEFSTAN etc.). Experience in the Management of Safety. Experience in instructional techniques & operations with high pressure systems. The role may have to provide support and/or deliver projects globally therefore, travel to global locations will be required as NSRS is a global rescue system.
