Following successful investment into the pharmacy clinical cancer services team, we have a new fantastic opportunity for an experienced clinical pharmacist to join our growing team in adult cancer services at the University Hospital Lewisham site.
You will work together with your counterpart at the QEH site, to improve outcomes for cancer patients at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT). Although this post is based at University Hospital Lewisham, the post holder will be expected to work cross-site as required.
The pharmacy service at LGT is well established and highly valued by the Division. You will be expected to lead and develop the outpatient, day-case, and ward-based pharmacy service at LGT, which will be pivotal in improving services to patients.
You will have experience of developing, managing and delivering pharmacy services, and have a vision for the delivery of pharmaceutical services to cancer services. You should have considerable clinical experience and be keen to use your knowledge, skills and experience to improve patient care through the delivery of efficient medicines management services. You should ideally have an independent prescribing qualification or currently be working towards the qualification.
You will have excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills; you must be able to manage your own workload, motivate and manage others, work as part of a team, and engage at a high level with key stakeholders within the Division.
Main duties of the job
Job Summary:
* To be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of Cancer Services at University Hospital Lewisham.
* To be responsible for the coordination and delivery of a responsive, proactive, patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to the Allied Clinical Services division. This will include the promotion of safe, effective, and cost-effective drug use to facilitate patient admission and enhance continuity of care across the primary and secondary care interface.
* To support the Lead Pharmacist Technical Services (UHL) and the Technical Services Manager in the implementation of technical service developments Trustwide.
* To support the division in managing their drugs budget and act as the point of liaison for any service developments that involve medicines or pharmacy services in Oncology and Palliative Care.
* To act as a role model and provide a consistently high standard of pharmaceutical service to patients in line with the Trust and Departmental objectives.
* To provide operational and clinical support to pharmacy developments as dictated by trust, departmental, and service objectives. This includes supervision, training, and support to junior pharmacists, pre-registration pharmacists, and other pharmacy staff as necessary.
* To deputise for the Principal Pharmacist for Cancer Services & Palliative Care as required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key Result Areas & Performance:
Clinical Services and Patient Care
* To participate in the ‘front-line’ provision of Pharmacy Services as appropriate and when required.
* To be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a pharmacist independent prescriber.
* To practice as a pharmacist independent prescriber, where appropriate to improve patient care and safety, and to continue to develop the role of pharmacist independent prescriber within the specialty.
* To act as a clinical role model for other pharmacists within the team and demonstrate the ability to provide service that ensures the safe, clinically effective, and cost-efficient use of drugs and the ability to check clinically screened dispensed prescriptions.
* To provide a safe and patient-focused clinical pharmacy service to wards, including undertaking medicines reconciliation, assessing pharmaceutical needs, and ensuring appropriate drug supply.
* To participate in consultant post-take ward rounds to identify and resolve pharmaceutical care needs of patients.
* To lead the training program within Cancer and Palliative Care for pharmacists providing service to wards across the Trust.
* To support the investigation of medication-related incidents and formulation/delivery of action plans to address any problems identified within Medicine.
* To contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to improve safe medicines use across the Trust.
* To liaise with primary care colleagues to gather and disseminate patient medication issues to other healthcare providers.
Leadership & Service Development
* To lead and develop the clinical pharmacy service to Cancer Services across the Trust, including setting and monitoring quality standards.
* To provide the Director of Pharmacy with details of output, performance, and activity at specified time intervals.
* To identify resources required to improve pharmacy services within the specified directorate.
* To support the development, implementation, and adherence to local and national guidelines/policies to ensure cost-effective and safe prescribing.
* To collaborate in the development of Integrated Care Pathways, Standard Operating Procedures, and Patient Group Directions.
* To liaise with other senior pharmacy staff to ensure the effective provision of Pharmacy Services.
Division support
* To actively contribute to the management of the drug budget for the division through drug expenditure monitoring and audits.
* To identify areas of potential cost-savings within Cancer Services.
* To educate healthcare professionals on the costs associated with drug therapy and promote evidence-based, cost-effective prescribing.
* To participate in the preparation of business cases to support service developments within Pharmacy.
* To actively participate in divisional meetings, if required.
Staff Management and Training
* To manage the induction and development of pharmacy staff according to their identified needs.
* To undertake regular performance reviews of all staff managed according to Trust procedures.
* To support the education and training of other healthcare professionals.
* To participate and contribute to clinical training programmes at a local and national level.
* To evaluate and develop own management and professional knowledge competencies.
* To undertake CPD to ensure that knowledge is continually updated.
* To arrange and/or deliver relevant departmental meetings across the Trust.
* To be a postgraduate tutor for pharmacy staff as appropriate.
Research & Development
* To lead in audit and practice research to investigate and improve the quality of service for patients.
* To encourage research conducted to be published or presented at meetings.
* To develop working relationships and research links with academic units.
Person specification
Qualifications and Training
* B. Pharm / M. Pharm / BSc (Pharmacy) or equivalent.
* Professional registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Postgraduate Diploma in either Clinical Pharmacy or General Pharmacy Practice (or equivalent).
* Mandatory CPD to maintain fitness to practice.
* Other postgraduate qualifications i.e. Independent Prescribing.
* Management/Leadership courses i.e. Edward Jenner, Mary Seacole.
Experience
* Substantial post-registration experience in hospital clinical pharmacy or equivalent relevant area of practice.
* Demonstrable experience in supervising others.
* Demonstrable experience of managing staff/teams.
* Demonstrable experience of coordinating and leading on clinical audit.
* Demonstrable experience of protocol/guideline development.
* Demonstrable experience in the delivery of formal education and training at postgraduate level.
