Senior Mechanical Estimator - Home BasedJob DescriptionCostain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise to help shape and deliver its strategic infrastructure upgrade programme and by United Utilities as one of 7 partners to deliver high value projects between 2025 - 2030.The estimating function within the division is growing to facilitate the increased volume of works being forecast over the next 5 years, with projects varying from £5m to over £250m in value, covering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure assets on water and wastewater sites with wider Enterprise partners.This is a home-based role with occasional travel as required.#LI-JA1ResponsibilitiesThe Senior Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for reviewing the Project Content Documents (PCD) and proposed scope of works to assist in preparation of Bottom-up-estimates for the Mechanical elements of the schemes along with a Top-Down review from cost curves and Schedules of rates to assist in negotiation of the proposed Target Price.Work closely within the bid team and be responsible for the preparation of the Mechanical Estimate for each projectPreparation of the detailed scope from drawings, specifications and a PCD that details the outline scopeIdentify any errors/omissions from the scope within the PCDPrepare abstract of material and sub-contract requirements for sourcing and pricingTechnical and commercial appraisal of material and subcontractor quotations to ensure full coverage of the scope is pricedPreparation of analytical estimates including the detailed appraisal of the mechanical packages and attendances requiredContribute to the identification of risk and pricing of risks throughout the bidAttend site visits during tender periodPreparation of a \\\"Tender Book\\\" to collate and present the mechanical estimatePrepare Top-Down-Estimate using the Framework agreed schedules of rates and cost curves for benchmarking as part of the review processQualificationsFormally qualified in a Mechanical related disciplinePrevious experience working as an Estimator for a major contractor, within the water sectorExperience of pricing medium to large value new works or capital maintenance works on both waste and clean water projects would be an advantageCustomer focused, open and honest, safe and environmentally awareTeam PlayerMust be commercially aware and a lateral thinker ideally with a knowledge of the various model Forms of ContractGood technical understanding of Waste and Clean water process solutions and the ability to promote alternative process options where appropriateNumerate, accurate and self-checkingKnowledge of CCS \\\'Candy\\\' Estimating system would be an advantage albeit training will be givenFull driving licenceAbout UsCostain helps to improve people\\\'s lives with integrated, leading edge, smart infrastructure solutions across the UK\\\'s energy, water, transportation and defence markets.
