Do you want to be part of a team working in brand new, purpose-built theatres providing planned surgery for patients across Hertfordshire and west Essex?
We are looking NOW for talented staff to form the core team that will be the beating heart of the Hertfordshire and West Essex Surgical Centre being built at St Albans City Hospital and set to open in Spring 2025.
More than 4,000 patients will be seen at the hub each year for non-complex orthopaedic, hip and knee surgery as well as ear, nose and throat procedures and spinal injections. Being separated from emergency services will reduce the risk of short-notice cancellations.
This is a fabulous opportunity to play a key role in a flagship collaborative project between the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Herts and West Essex Integrated Care Board.
The Surgical Centre will focus on Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) standards and will be a highly efficient facility, achieving 85% theatre utilisation and operating sessions over an extended 10-hour day, four days a week, with shorter, 8-hour operating session taking place on Friday and Saturdays.
Main duties of the job
As the specialist lead theatre practitioner, you will support the Surgical Centre to be a centre of High Volume, Low Complexity (HVLC) surgery, utilising the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) standards and best practice to achieve a highly efficient facility.
You will be responsible for the assessment of care needs, development and/or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients undergoing operating theatre procedures within the surgical centre for ENT and Orthopaedics.
You will work with colleagues ensuring that all patients scheduled for surgery are safely prepared and the co-ordination of their theatre time is communicated effectively with all clinical colleagues. You will develop the service to ensure that appropriate protocols and governance are in place and to audit the service regularly to ensure that best practice is maintained.
