Important: All applicants must be able to obtain Security Clearance, and as a minimum be living in the UK for 5 years.
Working: The role is office/hybrid based with occasional travel to other company/customer's sites in the UK or abroad. Office site presence, anticipated 2-3 days onsite, depending on project needs.

Responsibilities:
* Be seen as the main focal point for the Product Safety Assurance of the Design of equipment following customer requirements.
* Provide credible advice and guidance to the wider business and external stakeholders.
* Ensure that safety considerations are an integral part of the design process and take cognisance of the whole product lifecycle.
* Maintain and manage the implementation of the Project Safety Management System for equipment design and delivery.
* Evolve working practices where appropriate to ensure that product safety can be managed in a cost-effective manner.
* Resolve a range of Product Safety engineering issues and problems, compiling technical reports, and accompanying presentations.
* Cultivate the safety arguments for a variety of equipment, employing all required facets of the product safety lifecycle.
* Ensure that the standards of Product Safety defined by statutory, business, and customer requirements are observed in the heavy-duty equipment.
* Work effectively as a team of Product Safety Engineers across the business.
Experience needed:
* Ideally qualified to degree-level or equivalent experience in a Physics or Engineering based subject, such as; Electronics, Hardware, Computer Science, Safety or Systems Engineering etc.
* Hold acknowledged competency in the specialised field of Product Safety Engineering, with a demonstrable and successful track record of delivering a Product Safety Management System (PSMS) within a complex system environment.
* Hold significant/relevant knowledge of applicable legislation and standards (e.g., HASAWA, COSHH, REACh, BS EN 61508, Def Stan 00-056, Def Stan 00-055 etc.)
Experience in the following would be desirable:
* Experience in the Defence / Aerospace or safety regulated environment would be advantageous.
* Experience in the Naval / Maritime domain would be advantageous.
* Hold CEng, or equivalent experience to be able to achieve it, in the short-term.
* Be a recognised member of a relevant industry-wide body, e.g., SCSC, SaRS, IET, IMechE etc.
