Job Title: Telematics Unit Project Design Engineer
Location: Cranfield
Salary: £29.00 per hour
We are recruiting an experienced Telematics Unit Project Design Engineer to join a globally recognised automotive company in Cranfield. This long-term contract role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automotive technology with a focus on telematics systems for vehicles manufactured in Europe and sold globally.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement on-board telematics systems for vehicles, ensuring alignment with global market requirements.
2. Generate and release Telematics Control Unit (TCU) configuration data for European vehicles.
3. Manage Tier 1 suppliers, ensuring products are delivered within Quality, Cost, and Timing targets.
4. Coordinate in-house and supplier TCU validation according to design standards prior to software releases.
5. Collaborate with Off Board Connected Car test teams and customer-oriented engineering teams to confirm system performance for remote commands.
6. Serve as the project manager, coordinating cross-carline projects for connected car and infotainment teams, both on-board and off-board.
7. Work with design and test teams to define project scope, schedules, and test plans, maintaining project milestones.
8. Manage development planners across carlines and ensure engineers meet quality targets through all project phases.
9. Collaborate with Telematics Service Providers to ensure development schedules align with the client’s milestones.
10. Conduct design reviews at key milestones, ensuring timely releases and resolution of concerns.
11. Provide manufacturing plant support as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
1. Degree-qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
2. Experience with telematics hardware, systems, and knowledge of vehicle connectivity.
3. Understanding of mobile network infrastructure and data transfer.
4. Experience with manufacturing BOM management (advantageous).
5. Proficiency in Office 365 tools, including Excel at an intermediate/advanced level.
6. Practical experience in problem-solving tools and techniques, with a strong mathematical understanding.
Required Skills:
1. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and take responsibility for project deliveries.
2. Competence with PC applications, including Microsoft Office.
3. Self-motivating, proactive, and flexible regarding working practices and hours.
4. Strong multitasking and prioritization skills across multiple projects.
Desirable Skills:
1. Knowledge of 5G technologies and non-European mobile networks.
2. Experience with MQTT and End-to-End System architecture with Cloud Infrastructure.
3. Understanding of European eCall regulations.

1. Monday to Friday
2. 39 hours per week
3. £29.00 per hour
