The main purpose of the Team Leader is to undertake duties within a multidiscipline Engineering Office. All work is carried out under the direct supervision of the Drives and Controls Group Manager. The incumbent is also responsible for the progress of projects within their team, from enquiry to issue of deliverables.
The position entails responsibility for the UK-based Fluid Power Team comprising engineering personnel at all levels from trainee to senior level. Reporting directly to the Drives and Controls Group Manager, the position will demand close liaison with client-facing support teams (typically comprising Business / Contract Manager, Account Manager, Project Engineer etc.) in order to ensure that enquiries and projects generated via the contract (or other ad-hoc work) are allocated and processed within the Drives and Controls Group. Prioritisation and sharing of workload will be performed in conjunction with the contract team, and where appropriate, the Drives and Controls Group Manager.
Main responsibilities
* Enquiry Preparation: The position entails the successful management, co-ordination, allocation and control of manpower who will be required to process engineering enquiries in accordance with company procedures and guidelines. This will require an understanding of the methodology of enquiry processing and includes participation with and guiding team members in the following stages:
o Development of Scopes of work
o Production of Execution Plans
o Production of Work Breakdown Structure
o Proposal Formatting and Collation
o Submission Review and Approval
* Project Activity: The position necessitates the co-ordination, planning and prioritization of fluid power projects undertaken by the Drives and Controls Group in accordance with company procedures and guidelines. Projects will be received via contract teams, sales teams and other sources. The project activity relates to those projects/work scopes processed by the Drives and Controls Group; in this instance, success is measured by attainment of business plan turnover and profit and the delivery of projects to safety and quality standards.
* Personnel: It is expected that the incumbent will demonstrate leadership and promote training and development of subordinates. In this respect, he/she is required to lead innovation and to initiate continuous improvement in a people business. The incumbent will actively provide technical guidance and mentoring to others to promote competence and ensure successful delivery of projects. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that the fluid power capability is at an optimum manning level to meet business demands and will therefore play an active role in the recruitment process for fluid power personnel.
* Technical Duties: Determine customer requirements and objectives and assist in developing specifications for projects/systems to ensure customer requirements are met. Apply understanding of industry standards and directives in delivering projects to the required specification. Ensure best practice in all areas of system design, construction, testing, installation and commissioning. Compilation of technical specifications and documentation packages.
