As Programme Officer for Data Services you’ll have the opportunity to support scientists across the globe using the power of biological data to push the boundaries of science and tackle global challenges.
A key part of this multifaceted role will be building highly collaborative relationships across 25 Service Teams as well as other key stakeholders within the institute at EMBL-EBI, its parent organisation EMBL and external bodies such as funders and collaborators.

Your role
In this position as Programme Officer for Data Services, reporting to the Senior Programme Manager in the EMBL-EBI Deputy Director’s office, your support will ensure these globally leading services are managed in an efficient and joined-up way, working to deliver wider institutional strategic objectives that maximise the impact and sustainability of data services.
The programme officer's responsibilities include:
* Supporting the management of the EMBL-EBI data services portfolio, working closely with the Senior Programme Manager, Service Section Heads and Deputy Director.
* Leading the development of processes to manage an integrated portfolio of services and applying those processes on an ongoing basis.
* With the data services team leaders and section heads, identifying opportunities for improvement and simplification across data services, supporting the development of project proposals and then monitoring agreed projects.
* Supporting the preparation of funding applications.
* Leading on reporting to data service funders.
* Working with internal support teams such as grants, finance, legal and IT, as well as external stakeholders to meet the above objectives.
* Supporting delivery of events such as workshops, webinars, funding reviews, awaydays and visits by external stakeholders.
* Contributing to institutional responses to consultation requests from governments, funding agencies, societies pertaining to the EMBL-EBI service mission.
* Working closely with the Impact manager to curate data on delivery, user trends and impact case studies.
* Working closely with the Data Services Global Engagement Manager to ensure services are operating inclusively and delivering equitable benefit to all users.
* Coordinating and collaborating on the above activities with colleagues at both EMBL-EBI and broadly across EMBL.
Contract duration: 3 years (renewable up to 9 years)
Grading: Grade 5 (monthly salary starting at £3,229.13 after tax but excluding pension & insurances) + other paid benefits based on personal circumstances.
Minimum Requirements
* Undergraduate degree in the life sciences or other subject that is relevant to the remit of EMBL-EBI.
* Experience with grant funding cycles - applications, grant management and post-award engagement with funders.
* At least two years’ experience in a related role (for example, in portfolio, product or research management).
* A high degree of ability in handling numerical or financial data and demonstrated attention to detail.
* Good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise different tasks and to manage your own workload.
* The ability to handle confidential information and all situations with diplomacy and tact.
* Excellent networking skills and demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships across teams.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
You might also have
* A Ph.D. or Masters relevant to work undertaken at EMBL-EBI, or equivalent work experience in a scientific or technical environment.
* A high level of independent working and initiative.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft office packages, including Word and Excel.
