The Assistant Operations Manager will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of production operations.
Responsible for overseeing production processes, ensuring adherence to quality & compliance standards, and supervising the production team, this role is pivotal in meeting output targets and maintaining operational efficiency.
Your leadership will help improve levels of accountability and engagement across the operations team.
Responsibilities
Daily Operations
1. Ensure on-time delivery of production targets while maintaining quality and minimising waste.
2. Oversee production processes, addressing any quality or delivery issues in collaboration with relevant departments.
3. Lead daily production meetings, ensuring all operational concerns are addressed promptly.
4. Implement measures to enhance efficiency, equipment performance, and product quality.
5. Ensure team members receive adequate training on equipment operation, safety, and quality standards.
6. Review production schedules and output to maintain optimal operational performance.
Team Management

Compliance & Quality
1. Ensure all production activities adhere to BRC operational standards and food safety requirements.
2. Support the Technical Manager and Operations Manager in audit preparation and compliance.
3. Work towards continuous improvement of quality system procedures.
4. Inspect raw materials, products, and equipment to identify and address defects or malfunctions.
5. Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
6. Work with the management team to implement best practices in production workflows.
7. Support initiatives to optimise material usage and minimise production downtime.
8. Introduce tools to help with route cause problem solving and structure ways of working.
9. Support the business journey of continuous improvement.
Health and Safety
1. Ensure all health and safety procedures are followed at all times.
2. Conduct regular checks to maintain a safe and compliant working environment.
3. Report any hazards, incidents, or safety concerns.
4. Investigate accidents and incidents fully.
5. Enforce PPE requirements and hygiene standards among all staff.
6. Promote a safe working environment by conducting risk assessments and supporting accident investigations.
Ad hoc
1. Attending training and development events as required by the company.
2. Maintain a strong interest in keeping up to date with new developments within the sector and how these could be applied within the business.
3. Any other duties as requested by management to benefit the company.
Role Criteria
1. Proven experience in a management role within an FMCG environment.
2. Strong leadership and team supervision skills.
3. Demonstrated ability to meet production targets while maintaining quality and efficiency.
4. Knowledge of food safety standards and regulatory requirements (e.g., BRC, HACCP, allergen control).
5. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound operational decisions.
6. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
7. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
8. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production-related systems.
9. Understanding of health and safety regulations in a factory setting.
10. Previous experience in a leadership role within a dairy or food production environment.
11. Experience in continuous improvement methodologies.
£42,000.00-£44,310 per year
