Queen’s University Belfast
Director of Estates
Founded in 1845, Queen’s University Belfast is a broadly-based research-driven University. It is ranked in the top 200 in the world for impact and sustainability and is a member of the Russell Group, with a dynamic world-class research and education portfolio and strong international connections. QUB has always been a generator of knowledge, tackling the issues faced by individuals and societies at a local, regional, and global level. It is a campus university in the heart of Belfast City and is central to Belfast's culture, arts and social scenes. It is also central to the socio-economic success of Northern Ireland, with the university’s contribution to the economy in Northern Ireland and the UK currently estimated at over €3 billion annually.
This is a significant moment in the history of Queen’s University and an exciting time to join the Queen’s community. The University Strategy 2030 sets out the ambition to Shape A Better World through life-changing education and research. Providing the key infrastructure required to deliver the vision and strategic priorities of Strategy 2030 will require a step change in the design and construction of the university’s ‘built environment’ to align with their Net Zero Plan. To help realise this exciting ambition Queen’s are now seeking to appoint a Director of Estates to lead the re-imagination of their campus in support of a new paradigm for higher education.
Reporting to the Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer, Paddy Anderson, the incoming Director Estates will drive high levels of provision to enhance the student and academic experience, reinforce the centrality of the University to the city and its communities, and ensure that the estate acts as a fundamental enabler for achieving the university’s ambitions. They will ensure that property and infrastructure is a key strategic enabler for Queen’s future ambitions.
The new Director will have substantial senior leadership experience gained across multiple areas of relevance to the portfolio, combined with a proven ability to drive improvement across a complex environment. A commercial outlook, coupled with the intellectual acuity and emotional intelligence to engage effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, inherent in a progressive academic environment, will be vital.
