An exciting opportunity is available for a high-quality commercial professional to join a recently formed commercial team, working within Northern Powergrid’s Major Projects Division throughout the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire.

The role is based within the North East and requires the ability to travel throughout the regions that we operate in. Our agile policy allows for flexible working, where we promote office attendance coupled with home working, if desired.
The Commercial lead is a Fellow of the RICS and actively encourages those that desire to join the RICS via the various routes available. APC training plans will be put in place for those interested in gaining membership via this route.

Key Responsibilities U
* Undertake projects audits and measures to ensure complaint Contract administration
* Provide commercial input including financial and Contractual performance analysis to the management team
* Highlight potential risks and opportunities to the Senior Quantity Surveyor
* Assess Contractor applications and seek authorisation from Project or Programme Managers
* Final account compilation / submissions / Contractor reviews
* Assisting Project / Programme Manager with Works Order pricing
* Identification of variations and processing in line with Contract requirements
* Contribute to routine / monthly performance meetings between Contractors and the business units
* Review and delivery of Commercial briefings and training.
* Assessment of disputes and collation of related particulars for senior peer review
* Undertake forecast modelling exercises to determine contract affordability
Key Competencies
* Contractual knowledge and ability to interpret key contract terms
* Excellent communication, report writing, presentation and IT skills
* Possess an appropriate qualification and have sound commercial and business knowledge
* Understanding of the utility industry
* Ability to work as part of a team
* Punctual, organised and efficient, with good problem-solving capabilities.
Qualifications and Attributes
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* HNC or above in Quantity Surveying
* Relevant experience in the construction industry
* Experience administering a range of contracts
* Experience with scheme finance and commercial management
* Full, current UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS)
* Experience in the utility construction industry with a complete understanding of electricity distribution infrastructures
* Experience of commercially managing large framework contracts.
