Our client, a prominent player in the banking industry, is seeking a skilled individual to join their team as a SQL Database Engineer. With a focus on SQL migrations, configuration, and PowerShell scripting, this is a fantastic opportunity to work with a business-critical infrastructure and contribute to exciting IT projects. The role is temporary, with a contract length of 6 months, and offers full-time hours.
As a SQL Database Engineer, your main responsibility will be the administration and operation of our client's global Microsoft SQL server estate. You'll have the opportunity to work on a large-scale data centre migration project, executing SQL server upgrades within tight timescales. Your tasks will include managing and executing SQL server builds and upgrades, proactively monitoring the SQL server estate, developing database support utilities, and planning for future storage capacity requirements.
To excel in this role, you'll need experience in executing SQL server upgrades/migrations and strong knowledge of SQL server AlwaysOn, performance, and tuning. PowerShell scripting knowledge is desirable, and experience with upgrade/migrations is highly beneficial.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Manage and execute multiple SQL server upgrades as part of a Data Centre migration project within tight timescales.
2. Proactively monitor the SQL server estate to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
3. Develop database support utilities, scripts, and tools.
4. Configure and maintain SQL server processes, including monitoring and performance.
5. Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement.
6. Ability to work independently outside of business hours.
Key Skills and Abilities:
7. Experience executing SQL server upgrades/migrations.
8. Configuring/supporting SQL server AlwaysOn.
9. SQL server performance and tuning.
10. SQL server patching and maintenance.
11. PowerShell scripting knowledge desirable.
12. In depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and the Windows Server stack.
13. SharePoint knowledge an advantage.
Our client is looking for a reliable individual who can work effectively in a process-driven environment. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential as you will be collaborating with various teams. You will need to be proactive, detail-oriented, and able to work under pressure to resolve issues. ITIL Foundation or equivalent service management knowledge and a financial background are preferred.
