About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy.
Job Description
The position is an Asset Information Engineer in the Special Services Principal Account in the Heavy Civils & Infrastructure (HCI) Division, part of the Transportation Unit. The role will be based in our Croydon office.
To work with and support the HCI Asset Management Account Leader and senior colleagues, with a focus on developing and delivering novel and bespoke engineering, asset information and technology-based solutions for our infrastructure owning/operating clients.
* Developing, combining and applying knowledge from a range of domains (including civil engineering, asset management and information technology) to develop varied and bespoke solutions to our client’s asset management challenges.
* Working as part of a multi-disciplinary teams comprising asset managers, engineers and information management professionals to help define and develop methods, tools and systems for capturing and getting value from civil engineering data.
* Working independently on specific analysis and development tasks.
* Researching, evaluating the potential of and applying new and emerging technologies for infrastructure data capture, analysis and decision-support.
* Helping to create analysis and decision support processes tools that combine, contextualize and create value from collected data to help inform engineering management decisions.
* Deriving requirements and producing specifications for the development and testing of engineering-related technology products, and providing support during their creation, commissioning and use.
* Effectively communicating findings to both technical and non-technical people, verbally, statistically, in writing, through visualizations and by presentations.
* Working flexibly in a range of roles supporting colleagues delivering projects involving asset management consultancy/advisory services.
* Taking responsibility for the management and successful delivery of projects involving the above and ensuring that rigorous quality procedures are followed.
Candidate specification:
You enjoy taking on technical challenges and using your understanding of civil engineering assets, asset data and information technology, alongside analysis skills, to develop effective solutions. You’ll be interested in researching and applying new and developing technologies for data capture and analysis, and motivated by the opportunities that they bring to help you in your role and create value for colleagues and clients. You relish engaging and collaborating with others, including specialists from civil and structural engineering, asset management and information technology/management, to help understand and interpret data and to develop tools that help to visualize and explore it to support effective decision-making.
* Be educated to Degree or Masters level in an appropriate STEM discipline or disciplines, preferably with knowledge and experience of civil engineering, related infrastructure/assets and asset systems, and asset management.
* Be chartered, or demonstrate that you are close to and committed to gaining chartership (or equivalent), with a relevant professional institution, for example the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) or Institute of Engineering & Technology (IET).
* Be positive and creative in responding to challenges as well as logical, meticulous and thorough in working through them to solutions, with strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
* Be flexible, adaptable and positive in rising to new challenges, willing to take up a range of roles and responsibilities on a highly diverse range of projects that involve developing novel and bespoke solutions for our clients.
* Be capable of independently researching, quickly getting up to speed and gaining capability in new technical areas and keeping up to date with related developments.
* Be able to demonstrate experience in deriving client requirements in a structured and consistent way and supporting software and technology development processes to ensure their effective delivery.
* Understand basic programming concepts and methods, databases and data analysis, ideally with some familiarity with programming languages such as Python, MS SQL or MatLab.
* Have good English written and verbal skills, be able to effectively collaborate and communicate with technical specialists from other disciplines and with non-technical people in language that they will understand.
* Be intellectually curious and find reward in applying your technical skills and creativity to meet challenges and solve problems.
* Be self-reliant and motivated to look beyond the immediate task, see the bigger picture and identify opportunities to grow and do things better, providing added value to colleagues and clients.
