Job summary An exciting opportunity as arisen to join our Major Trauma Ward (25A) North Bristol NHS Trust is one of two designated Major Trauma Centres in South West England, servicing the Severn region. The Major Trauma Centre, supported by six acute trusts as designated trauma units, helps increase chances of survival and recovery for seriously ill patients. The Severn Major Trauma Network is committed to reducing avoidable deaths & life limiting injuries. We aim to improve care for seriously injured patients across the whole patient pathway from point of injury to rehabilitation. We also care for chest trauma injuries and are one of the only wards at NBT to care for epidurals, chest drains, ketamine infusions and patient controlled analgesia As a Major Trauma Centre, we ensure that patients have access to specialist equipment and a full range of trauma specialists, including orthopaedics, neurosurgery & radiology teams. This will help improve patient's chances of survival & help them recover faster; it is estimated that survival rates are increased by up to 30% In addition to clinical teams we have a team of experienced nurses & therapists who are available specifically to coordinate the care of seriously injured patients & provide support & information to patients and families both during and after their stay. Main duties of the job The postholder will: Be responsible for assessment, planning, provision, maintenance and evaluation of patient care. Work within and lead a clinical care team. Be designated on a regular basis to take charge of the ward/department in the absence of the ward manager or senior nurse after two years in post and on an occasional basis within the first two years in post. Take personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and will ensure duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code of Professional conduct. Take responsibility for the supervision and guidance of other staff including healthcare support workers and students on a daily basis. Actively contribute to the provision of a good learning environment by taking on the role of mentor/assessor for learners eg. Student nurses and support worker roles.
