Job Title: Public Family Law Paralegal
Our client is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Public Family Law Paralegal for their dedicated family law team. Minimum requirements include at least two years of experience in a family law environment at a similar level. The primary purpose of the role is to assist family solicitors in progressing their cases, focusing largely on legal aid children law cases involving representation via CAFCASS Guardians, with occasional work involving parent clients.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Taking client instructions and preparing client statements
2. Liaising with and instructing court-appointed experts
3. Preparing part applications for expert instructions
4. Drafting court orders, especially when instructing experts or amending court timetables
5. Liaising with agencies and organizations to request documents per court orders (e.g., police disclosure, medical records, school reports)
6. Arranging drug and alcohol testing and appointments
7. Scheduling appointments between fee earners, clients, experts, and guardians
8. Communicating with parties and the court regarding court timetables and directions
9. Attending court and conferences to assist counsel and take notes
10. Preparing briefs for counsel as needed
11. Updating court bundles
12. Responding to client inquiries and correspondence
13. Preparing legal aid applications for parents and children as required
14. Reviewing files for regulatory compliance
15. Managing costs and arranging amendments as necessary
16. Following up on court orders and directions
17. Managing the court diary to ensure hearings and appointments are scheduled correctly
