We have an exciting opportunity for an Underwriter to join our vibrant and busy Motor Trade team based in Croydon. This role would suit someone with Motor Trade and Commercial underwriting experience dealing with renewals, existing or new business.

You will be comfortable liaising with insurers and colleagues, dealing with various enquiries that may include understanding & assessing risks and reviewing quotations whilst ensuring adherence to underwriting guidelines under Delegated Authority schemes and disciplines. You will have good administration and communication skills with the ability to develop business relationships. You will have obtained Cert CII qualification or wish to work towards this.

Location: Based in Croydon, Surrey (CR0 6SR) our office is located next to East Croydon train station and is accessible by bus, car or train although some flexible working can be considered.
Responsibilities:
1. You will be dealing with renewals and mid-term adjustments in line with agreed delegated underwriting authority guidelines.
2. You will underwrite/generate renewal terms ensuring they are presented to account executives in a timely manner whilst achieving the necessary rate increases that insurers require.
3. You will deal with account executive and colleagues queries by phone and emails within agreed authority limits.
4. You will approach insurers with referrals on scenarios that are outside of our Delegated Authority in terms of pricing, coverage and policy conditions.
5. You will be required to be organised with your work allocation and prioritise where necessary whilst regularly reporting to the underwriting team leader.
6. You will adhere to compliance and regulatory procedures.
Experience:
1. You will have previous general insurance underwriting experience (ideally including motor trade and commercial) with a good working knowledge of all classes of business.
2. You will be either working towards or qualified Cert CII.
3. You will have experience of working within a regulated FCA environment (essential).
4. You will be able to understand and implement ‘best practice’ in customer service, compliance systems and processes, and financial management.
5. You will have good experience using bespoke systems and MS Office Suite, including Acturis/SSP.
6. You will have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, coupled with excellent time management.
7. You will be able to work under pressure, adapt and be flexible in approach.
8. You will have excellent communication skills which includes verbal, written, listening and negotiation, having the ability to communicate at all levels.
