Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) has recently had business case approval to expand its services and we are looking to recruit two forward-thinking and motivated individuals to join our team of Acute Medicine Consultants delivering our Acute Medicine services. These posts present an excellent opportunity for experienced clinicians with a comprehensive understanding of acute medicine to join our dynamic team committed to the delivery of the highest standard of care.
The Acute Medicine service is an integral part of the Trust's Medicine Division, providing care for a range of acutely unwell patients across our Acute Assessment Units and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan.
The successful applicants will join colleagues to continue the exciting developments improving the delivery of care to these acutely unwell medical patients within the settings of Medical Assessment Unit or Bryn Ward. Specialist interest will be accommodated eg. Respiratory, Cardiology, or Diabetes clinics, teaching and education sessions at Edge Hill University can also be considered.
These roles will require you to work across all areas in the Trust which includes those that are designated as positive, asymptomatic and negative COVID wards

The successful applicants will join colleagues to continue the exciting developments improving the delivery of emergency and critical care to these acutely ill patients, both within the settings of the Emergency Floor and Intensive Care Unit.

Job responsibilities
The post-holder will perform all the duties and have all responsibilities of a Consultant Intensivist / Acute Physician.
1. The successful applicants will join colleagues to continue the development of improved delivery of emergency care to the acutely ill patient within the settings of the Emergency Floor and Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
2. This post may involve the review of medical patients in assessment wards (MAU and Lowton), acute medical take (A&E in reach), and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) Unit.
3. This post will involve part of the week working on the Intensive Care Unit, and full participation in the Intensive Care on-call rota (currently 1:8 with 2PAs allocated to on-call and a 5% on-call supplement)
4. Each day, in either area, there is a formal morning ward round of all patients by acute physicians / intensivists. Throughout the day patients are reviewed as they arrive with the junior doctors.
5. The acute physicians also provide senior cover for the Same Day Emergency Care area that accepts ambulatory GP referrals direct to an organised clinic environment.
6. The acute physicians are part of a large team providing unscheduled care and are supported by the general physicians in overnight on call and weekends on call rota.
7. Acute Physicians provide linear consultant presence on AE and assessment areas from 0800 to 20:30
8. In addition, there are gastroenterology and cardiology in-reach teams providing daily review of complex patients.
9. There is daily support from specialist nurses in several specialties including Oncology, Alcohol, Respiratory, Cardiology, Diabetes and Palliative care.
10. Social support is provided by the Access to community service team (ACST). Hospital at home provides opportunities for continuing some treatment including IV treatment after discharge.

11. Full registration with the GMC with a valid license to practice
12. FFICM or EDIC & MRCP or equivalent
13. Entry on to the specialist register in ICM & GIM or eligibility within 6 months.
14. Possession of / eligibility for Fellowship / Associate Fellowship of Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
15. Eligibility for inclusion on the Specialist Registers.
