CNC Recruitment is seeking a dedicated and experienced Shift Supervisor for our client in the Bridport area - a prestigious global food production company. The Shift Supervisor is responsible for leading the production team to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of the daily packing plan. This role is integral to developing a best-in-class packing operation, fostering a collaborative and structured team environment, and aligning with business objectives.
Key areas of focus include safety, food quality, production efficiency, and continuous improvement, ensuring the highest operational standards in tea bag production.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership & Performance
* Lead the shift team to execute the daily packing plan, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and productivity targets.
* Organise and rotate staff to maximise efficiency, ensuring full shift coverage and break coverage.
* Work closely with engineering teams to prioritise tasks and maintain machine performance.
* Monitor shift metrics, ensuring all production KPIs are met and promptly addressing deviations.
* Ensure effective communication between shifts, supporting seamless handover processes.
* Utilise SAP to complete transactions related to production, troubleshooting issues as needed.
Safety & Compliance
* Ensure all employees adhere to Ecotone health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies.
* Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring all safety incidents or safety observations are reported and addressed promptly.
* Ensure strict compliance with food safety and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
* Support internal and external audits, including IFS food safety certifications.
Team Development & People Management
* Lead, coach, and develop the shift team to enhance skills, engagement, and performance.
* Provide structured training for permanent and agency staff, ensuring competency in their roles.
* Manage attendance, timekeeping, and engagement, applying the Bradford Score system for absence management.
* Support the Production Manager with team performance appraisals and feedback.
Continuous Improvement (CI) & Problem Solving
* Drive Lean and CI initiatives, identifying and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and waste reduction.
* Proactively troubleshoot operational issues, escalating problems appropriately.
* Support cross-functional projects, including process optimisation, waste reduction, OEE improvements and promoting safety culture amongst your teams.
Working Environment/Salary
* Physical requirements: Standing for extended periods, working in production, blending, and warehouse areas.
* PPE provided: Food-grade coats, mop caps, beard snoods (if required), hi-vis vests (warehouse), steel toe-capped shoes, and eye protection.
* Occasional office-based meetings required.
Requirements
Qualifications/Education Standards and Level of Skills
* Food Safety Level 2
* NVQ Level 2 in Manufacturing Operations
* IOSH Certificate (Health & Safety)
* Lean Six Sigma (Yellow or Green Belt)
* People Management Diploma
* Proven experience in FMCG food manufacturing (3+ years in a supervisory role).
* Strong knowledge of IFS, BRC food standards, and audit requirements.
* Experience in warehousing and logistics within a factory environment.
* Competency in SAP/ERP factory processes.
* Strong numeracy, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work within cross-functional teams, using initiative to drive department improvements.
* Experience using Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for reporting and analysis.
* Potential progression to Shift Manager and beyond within Production Leadership.
