We're thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity to join the Food Works SW team! We're seeking someone passionate about supporting food and drink producers in expanding their businesses.
As part of this role, you'll offer a diverse range of technical support and guidance to start-ups, growing businesses, and established companies. You’ll be advising on areas such as food safety, compliance, regulatory issues, manufacturing, product advice, as well as audit and certification procedures.

Based at our site in Weston-super-Mare, you'll work as part of our site team, particularly with our New Product Development Manager. Your focus will be supporting tenants grow their businesses, aiding development kitchen users in scaling up production from the site and businesses off site across a range of needs and challenges to help them succeed. This position requires occasional travel to clients and events off-site to provide both funded and commercial support.
Location: The Food Works SW Based at site, will involve travel to clients.
Term: Full Time, 37.5 hrs per week (Mon –Fri).
Anticipated start date: November 2024.
Duration: Permanent.
Salary Range: £39,000 to £45,000 depending on experience.
Holiday Allowance: 25 days in addition to 8 statutory days.
ABOUT FOODWORKS SW
A unique site providing food grade premises and a food technology resource of excellence in the Southwest for food and drink manufacturing businesses to enable them to grow and develop to a sustainable level. The purpose-built facilities on The Food Works SW site provides opportunities and support for businesses currently facing growth barriers in terms of accessing suitable premises, facilities and sector specific support and guidance.
PART 1 - JOB DESCRIPTION/ROLE REQUIREMENTS
To deliver high-quality technical support to food and drink manufacturers of any size or business stage across the Southwest of England in particular, liaising as required with colleagues and contractors on commercial and funded project activity. Providing technical manufacturing excellence as a food technical manufacturing ambassador for the site and the Southwest region. To be based at Food WorksSW providing proactive engagement with tenant businesses and off-site clients to deliver commercial and funded technical advice and support for clients regarding food technology and safety, product development and food management standards.
Part 2 Responsibilities
1. Provide Technical support and advice on and off site to businesses including:

Provide direct (‘hands on’) support relating to all aspects of technical advice and guidance to businesses at all stages of their activity and growth, e.g. food safety, product specifications, equipment, factory layouts, labelling and compliance, microbial analysis, accreditation to national industry standards (i.e. BRCGS / SALSA) in order to generate revenue and achieve strategic objectives.
3. Assisting pre-start and start-up businesses with requisite food technical requirements and ensuring safe and legal ‘shelf ready’ products are manufactured.
4. Proactively engage with Food WorksSW site tenants and kitchen users to ensure opportunities to provide technical advice are secured either through commercial or funded projects.
5. Respond to enquiries and opportunities for support through the preparation of quotes to increase commercial activity and income to achieve the company’s commercial targets.
6. Develop and deliver with colleagues a range of support packages to encourage increased take-up of services and income.
7. Working with colleagues especially the New Product Development and Innovation Manager assist businesses with their product development and reformulation and scale up.
8. Support the uptake of food technology, production equipment, automation, robotics, process technology and modern and efficient equipment in the manufacturing of food products to raise standards and productivity.
SITE ACTIVITY
Support the Facilities team to ensure a safe, secure and tidy site that meets regulatory requirements including risk assessments, incident reporting, supporting unit inspections as required etc. Ensuring Health and Safety requirements are current and relevant.
GENERAL BUSINESS ENGAGEMENT
Ensure technical offer is clearly communicated and promoted to clients to maximise commercial opportunities and identify funding opportunities to enable funded support.
PARTNERSHIP WORK
To identify potential sponsorship and funding opportunities from other businesses and funders. To provide technical liaison between food and drink manufacturing businesses and specialist including partner organisations.
Others
Complying with Data Protection regulations at all times. Ensure informed and up to date regarding legislative and food management standards and good practice including labelling and compliance.
