Directly reports into Document Controller
Purpose of the role:
1. To manage design consultant activities and deliverables to ensure they are completed in line with the agreed programme. This may include more than one consultant.
2. To be the technical lead on the project unless an Engineering Manager is present.
3. Ensure both input and output deliverables for the design are tracked and reported to the project manager as required.
Role Accountabilities
1. Manage the process, resolution and communication of all design queries as part of the project.
2. Review contract requirements and ensure compliance with requirements.
3. Raise requests for further information internally and externally from the whole project team.
4. Collaborate in the preparation of design programmes.
5. Manage communication with the Client design representative throughout the contract period.
6. Produce monthly reports on design progress and any other design specific elements.
7. Manage and update the design deliverable schedule.
8. Review all design deliverables and ensure that they are completed to the expected standard. Challenge and resolve when not.
9. Manage and chair design reviews with project team.
10. Manage and chair all design interface meetings with external parties.
11. Review designs for compliance with contract requirements and tender intentions.
12. Ensure compliance with design approval processes required by the contract.
13. Routinely monitor report on progress of the design and explain any necessary actions.
14. Collaborate with the engagement of external suppliers/subcontractors.
15. Manage provision of drawings to project team - document control.
16. Issue of instructions to Designer in accordance with project authority protocol.
17. Approve designer's quality management system.
18. Lead Design Reviews with approval and acceptance bodies. TAA, NR, LUL etc.
19. Support HUK Assurance functions with design specific requirements.
The Candidate:
1. Ideally resides locally to the area.
2. Wide-ranging understanding and working knowledge of construction methods and outputs and can coach others.
3. Must have spent 12 months completing designs as part of a consultancy or temporary works design department.
4. Will have both substantial construction and design experience.
5. Ability to deputise for the Project Manager if required.
6. Understands the Principal Designer Duties including ERIC.
